I'm pretty happy with how this week turned out. It had been a long time since I actually wrote a song with lyrics.  It was a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun with transitions and recording multiple tracks of clapping.  I hope future weeks produce more spontaneous song writing/recording in the vein of last week.

On the front page of the site, click the blue square with the arrow marked 5, it will pull up all tracks submitted for week 5. The nifty little player will stream them all.

You can also listen to the previous weeks.

This step is key.

I'm writing a country-tinged ballad about crystal meth.

Great write-ups as usual, Mr. Kilpatrick.

Thanks for mentioning me, and thanks for the genuine lol at the "can't believe this guy was on my ex-label."

Keep doing this!

Yeah, it's really a personal challenge, so it's no big deal to miss weeks. The important part is just to push yourself to write music and interact with others doing the same.

I like the random idea, and another thing which would be nice is the ability to have separate playlists for each week... as well as the main one with everything in it (which could benefit especially from a shuffle button)

Isn't there already a playlist for each week?  If you press the arrow on the corresponding link on the main page, and then just hit play on a song from the list, the songs of that week will just play one after another.  I've been using this site like internet radio to listen to each week's submissions.

I too have been thinking about better methods for CC.  It's granted that people will listen and comment to established artists with a following and such.  But kudos to the people who have managed to listen to every song and comment the large majority!  That's just a little out of the question most of the time - there must be a better way!  Maybe we could have buddies or groups on different weeks that critique each other or similar?

You could start threads/forums each week to talk about tracks of a certain type. "Post here to talk about/get critique on this week's noise tracks." That type of thing.

You also might want to give it some time. I've been working on listening to every track and commenting on as many as possible, but It's taking several days!

I was out of town all weekend (and I have no portable recording capabilities) so I had less time than the previous weeks as well.  I would have liked to spend more time on my track, but it was still fun, and I am still pretty happy with the results.

And I'm really impressed with the submissions this week!

I'm pretty happy with my track.  I did feel the time crunch though.  I meant to record an organ for the bridge and I would have liked to spend more time EQing and mixing.  Still pretty happy though!

I'm going out of town this coming Friday, so I have to finish this week's track early.  I'm predicting some LSDJ-only thing.  Something slow.  Shoegaze with a trip-hop beat!  Yeah...

*nods* Internet pathologist ogre.

I vote to leave it open for now and see what happens.

I imagine the user base will be in flux for the first month or so (people dropping out when they realize this isn't for them, etc.)  If in a month or so the influx of new users becomes too much (i.e. there are so many users it is impossible to listen to all the tracks, server space cost becomes prohibitive, the site's design becomes a problem for so many participants, etc.) it could be closed off.

Just an idea.

Great idea! Nicely written as well. I look forward to reading your Weekly Beats round up.

Also, thanks for liking my song! ^_^

I've been working on 2 main things the last few months that I hope to hone. The first is that I want to create a really organic, natural-sounding fusion of chip music and acoustic elements. The second is to really stretch my chord progressions, incorporating more jazz chords and interesting shifts. So I'm hoping to explore and refine these ideas, with the goal of crafting a really focused album.

I'm also excited about doing a bunch of goofy one-offs.  tongue

Just from the first week, I can tell there are going to be a lot of interesting and exciting compositions coming out of this.
