Maybe kinda trip-hop? Except with a jammy telecaster solo? Or not?

Man I didn't really realize this was all so electronic-oriented!

That's the interesting thing - because I think a lot of us do play musical instruments outside of our electronics... but some of us are a little out of practice because we have fallen into the electronic void!!  I restrung my acoustic last week and couldn't even play a bar chord without buzzing where 10 years ago I was playing shows weekly.  So week one (for me) was about delivering something within my safety zone.  As we go I'm sure more and more people will pick up their old beloved instruments.   :-)

There's some non-electronic stuff hidden in there, and people like me who do live instruments with electronics.

And like cTrix said, I'm sure as the year goes on, we'll see more live instrumentation popping up.  I'm looking forward to it!

I also hope all the electronic music doesn't scare off the non-electronic folks. That would be sad. There's some nice diversity tucked in this week's playlist.

listened to and/or commented on (by yourself)? Maybe even three color keys for listened to/commented on/listened to

Yeah - this would be handy!  I still don't know if I've listened to everyones tune.  I'm pretty sure I have though because it's been 6 1/2 hours of listening.

Other than this I've gotta say the site is really functional.

Something to indicate whether I've listened or not would be great.  I'm trying to listen to everything, but every time I navigate away from the page for a moment it seems like the order of the songs changes for some reason, making it hard to keep track.

The problems I see with allowing this is that some people may not want their music to be park of such a pack, my other issue is that some poeple do not include their license information in the id3 tags. Making it hard to decipher license info.

Dunno about the id3 tag bit, but you could add a box people check when they upload asking whether they would allow the song to be packaged in this hypothetical zip.

I'm just going to stream the tracks off the site, personally.  The player is nice enough to simply move on to the next track (Thanks for that, buy the way...it makes listening at work so easy and pleasant).

But I can see the allure of a zip I suppose.

I'm pretty happy with mine I guess.  If I'd had more time I would have re-recorded the guitar parts and maybe added more ambient sounds to the bridge.  And maybe written more sections, and polished the LSDJ part more, etc.  But on the whole, fun first week!

As a second to what iran sanad said, I have a pair of Audio-Technica cans I've been using for about 4 years--super comfortable, great sound, and they've taken a beating.

I've also heard really good things about Grado headphones, for good sound/frequency response.  You might want to look into those as well.

I've finished the LSDJ portion of the track.  I just need to record the guitars and tambourine.  Maybe some other stuff.  Glockenspiel or something.  And cricket sounds.  I need cricket sounds.

Lazerscale only had a handful of people - communication was easily taken care of over IRC or email if needed.

There are many more people doing WeeklyBeats. It makes sense to have a forum to foster a community and make collaborations easier as well as sharing thoughts etc.

My thoughts exactly.  I've enjoyed reading the posts so far, finding out what people hope to accomplish, what tools they will be using, etc.  As long as people stay civil and friendly, the forums will be a nice companion to teh 52 beatz.

I gotta say, I'm excited to hear how some of you guys use your vintage synth gear.  I love that shit.

I'm generally a pretty slow composer, so I'm looking forward to forced speed.  I want to incorporate a lot of different instruments in with chip, too. I'm comfortable mixing chip with acoustic guitar, but mandolin...not so much.  I'm going to try though.

I also used to write songs with lyrics, and I haven't written any lyrics in over a year.  I'd like to do some singing this year.

Like cTrix, one of my goals is to use every piece of gear I own on a track this year, which will include:

LSDJ
acoustic, electric, classical guitar
banjo
mandolin
bass guitar
pawn shop special drum set
melodica
Piano (real one, not a plugin or keyboard) it's in a room not close to my computer, so recording it will be...interesting.  It may be recorded on four track tape, haha)
Roland Juno-60
Moog LP
lots of toy instruments

I plan to do some singing too.
