hah, yeah, my first was Mario Paint too, and then Music 2000 on the PSX. Best game ever.

I should also point out that a great deal of what I do day-to-day is with pencil or pen and manuscript paper, sketching paper and when it's time for software, Sibelius.

I also have been trying to get into Ableton Live, which should be doubly good when I get Max 6...

I use mainly Logic Studio, but it really depends what I'm doing. Have been using it for about 3 years. Prior to that I used Sony ACID for about 5 years and Reaper for about a year. I think the first one I used was Sound Forge way back around 2002.

http://www.soundcloud.com/fracture-sound; completed these two tracks this week (one is based on a previous Weekly Beat of mine), this is my old improv trio trying a new, logistically simpler way of creating music.

This is really, really tough. I think I'll go with "Book of Saturday" by King Crimson. If I recall, it opened my ears.

Synths + birds.

sad could always contribute when your time allows.

Was really happy with my submission. I've reformed my old improv trio, but with the added flexibility of computer manipulated sounds, which I did as part of our recording project. Week 7s piece was inspired by the same processes.

Wow. mp3.com.au has closed its doors. Thanks for the email notification, guys!

www.myspace.com/cosmicdebrisjazz p'raps!

Thanks for letting me know man.

Sound environments... that's my hint. Finished and uploaded. Woo.

Interesting stuff, George. I like how it sounds somewhat "chip"ish, without being chipish.

my website has a bunch of info about previous work: vgiles.net

BUT, back in 07 I formed and played bass in, arranged and composed for a jazz group called Cosmic Debris (thanks, Zappa): this and teaching was my main income source for quite a while, but it folded in a bit and I went overseas. http://www.mp3.com.au/cosmicdebris

In 09 I was part of an ongoing experimental (I use that term loosely) project called Fracture, we released an album on the Clinical Archives netlabel. http://www.archive.org/details/ca340_f (very cool label I must say). This music is free improvisation/developmental/deconstructional music, with the idea of exploring the sounds of the environment in which we were playing, mainly using instruments, but not always. This project is ongoing now after a fair bit of time off, with more a focus on treating found sounds and improvising with them. Coming soon!

I also write concert music and such, have done a couple of short film scores and other stuff. vgiles.net for this kinda thange.

Laptop while getting a special massage? Har har...

Aye, the greatest percentage of music I listen to each week is probably WB...

This week sounds exciting. I might resume my granular project, or perhaps some of what I've been doing for my reformed, reorganised and newly directioned improv trio (with less improv), using found sounds/field recordings to create a nice lengthy immersive piece. So much choice... or maybe another piano piece. See, the truth is, I've not started yet! big_smile

+1 for Pyramid Song.

I really like Hail to the Thief, it's probably my favourite of theirs, followed by... The Bends maybe...
