A super industrious afternoon - track one's done and dusted!
Last year was pretty busy: a handful of mostly excellent gigs but mostly taken up with sound design for youth art projects and a couple of theatre productions. Aside from that, a string of exhibitions featuring new sound installation work. I rounded out the year with a self-released EP that I'm very happy with (you can check it out here via bandcamp.)
This year will be decidedly quieter, but I've got a few things already lined up - a label release of field recordings 'single', Adelaide City Council art commission and a couple of sound design briefs for upcoming theatre shows in the 2016 Adelaide Fringe.
I made it to 21 weeks last year. It would be great to get in a full year but it's a daunting prospect.
Hi, hi, hi, hi.
This year (2015) would have been virtually impossible or at least killed me in the process with art stuff and work. 2016 is shaping up as quiet, therefore I'm going to go hammer and tongs here.
Hi folks, hope everything's going well here.
Though I've pulled out of WB14, I haven't been necessarily idle and amongst other projects I recently performed a live set. I made a line recording from my sub mix and after a bit of cleaning up/mastering I've uploaded to Bandcamp as a stream/pay-what-you-like-for-it. It features a couple of pieces which will end up on an album later in the year, including live versions of Week 5's submission, "Maurilia" and the later "Goyder's Line" pieces.

With disappointment I’m announcing that next week’s WB submission will be my last for this year. This is primarily due to the fact that I feel like I need to stop making work for a while and take stock of my situation. Coming into 2014, things were looking pretty good and much quieter than the preceding years which were filled with lots of (frankly, too many) projects – which, whilst being hugely rewarding at times - presented an enormous strain on my mental health and each year tended to end with a tumultuous burn out. I’m in a similar situation at present, and whereas distractions and routine would normally keep the allegorical Black Dog at bay, it’s not working out so much on the creative end of things. This year’s WB has been a fantastic experience for me and I’m very pleased with a majority of the tracks I’ve presented over the 20 odd weeks; with some of this material pointing out some future directions. I’m enjoyed immensely the supportive community here and all of the feedback that has been offered on my work has been greatly appreciated. I’ve done my best to listen to as much work by others here as well and enjoyed a great deal of it. I’ll check back in from time to time as the rest of you strive for the magic number of 52. Now I’ll have a lie down.
Peas and love,

Week 19: "Goyder's Line And Several Distant Figures"
Yep, I'm amazed I'm a quarter of a way in…what an improvement on 2012's effort.
I'm loving it. I just have to get around to listening to more of other peeps work.
2012: 7 weeks
2014: 8 weeks (HURRAH!)
Bloody hell. Poor Adelaide.
It is quite frankly, bizarre.
From Adelaide's hottest summer on record and an average temp of 36 C for the past 30 days, to our wettest day in nearly 50 years (70 odd mm of rain). Most of the city and surrounding suburbs are starting to flood.
*builds ark*
Maybe i should get into drone music so i could do weekly tracks in hour or so by just droning synths with fx.
That's the trick!
Adelaide has now matched it's record of 12 summer days (thankfully, not consecutive) above 40 degrees, which was set in 1893. It appears it's going to be broken as we've got a mid-week patch of 39-40-39 forecast.
Though December was quite mild, since January it's been brutal and we've been lucky to have a day or two below 30 as respite. Looking a little further ahead by a week it seems as though things are levelling out to 25-35 for the remainder of summer, which I can definitely live with.
Really looking forward to Autumn.
6 weeks in and I'm feeling pretty good with everything. I think I'm well on track for beating my previous 2012 *best* of seven weeks.
But I really feel I need to catch up and listen/comment on the previous week's submissions as I've only really scratched the surface each week and I know there's some wonderful stuff being shared on here.
Two hours ago: solo sets by Chris Abrahams and Tony Buck (2/3 of The Necks) at the Governor Hindmarsh. Extraordinary, transcendental performances.
C.A: solo piano. Tight, gradually expanding cells of whole tone scales over 40 minutes which encompassed the entire range of the keyboard. Incredible control of dynamics, harmonics, sustain and muting. The mid-section sequence of low register tones slowly erupting into a dense cloud of heavy oceanic dissonance is one of the most exciting things I've heard in recent years.
T.B: field recordings, guitar, percussion and drums (+ kitchen sink.) AMAZING.
I've been listening in bursts to Anthony Pateras' "Collected Works" box set, recently. Been re-inspired by his work (and attitude).
Excellent!
