Heaps of Bernard Parmegiani and Luc Ferrari as source inspiration for the next three weeks.

I've been spending a lot of time this week revisiting and listening to Eno/Fripp's Evening Star colab from 1975.  The title track is sublime and I wish I could play guitar like Robert Fripp.  "An Index of Metals" is improvisatory rubbish though.

Also:

Ravel/Debussy (again)
Deaf Center's Pale Ravine (again)
Lots of Neko Case
Beck's new album (which is pretty underwhelming and sounds practically identical to an album he recorded 12 years ago, only with less misery.)

There Will Be Blood.

Now why didn't I watch this sooner?

And that soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood - wow.

f.n: yesterday was the city's hottest Feb day on record.  All sorts of records have been broken this year, which is a bit depressing if (like me) you believe that climate change is a thing.

To hell with this mid-summer period in Adelaide.  These 40+ degree days are starting to really wear me down...

No kids, just a lovely patient/thoughtful/intelligent partner who's also an artist.  The only issue is that during the past year we moved into a smallish place which means we're sharing a studio/study space*, which can get a little hard to work with when I want to pull things out into the space and there's delicately placed cutout collages from old National Geographics all over the floor. wink

* I'll upload some photos to the gear porn thread once I tidy the space up a bit.  Though the intense summer in Adelaide at the moment is making it difficult to do anything like this in the immediate future. sad

This week I'm making an effort to get through this week's WB submissions and comment on the stuff that wheels my wagon.  Also:

Deaf Centre - Pale Ravine
Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Dire Straits - Making Movies (yes, you read that right.)
Tape - Luminarium
Future of the Left - How To Stop Your Brain In An Accident
Sonic Youth - Sonic Nurse

All over the shop, really.

Not to have a go at anyone here, but I'm a bit averse to the whole 'like/heart/favourite/vote-up' scenario you see everywhere these days.  I think it's a little more worthwhile for the recipient to receive feedback in the form of a comment and not something that involved a solitary click of the mouse.  Whilst the sentiment might be sincere, it's just not the same as receiving some nice words.

Yeah, I personally have an issue with it. But we'll add it.

There is a difference between a free-one-for-all-everyone-holding-hands culture versus giving permission for a commercial enterprise to profit or misrepresent your creative work.

As long as you know that by selecting such a license- you are legally allowing companies to use your work without consent- which you'd normally get compensated for or have the option to reject their usage. It may even look like you are endorsing the product when they give attribution. It's a awful idea in this society.

Seriously, THINK ABOUT THIS before selecting a licence like this. You could end up directly endorsing something horrible. Not to mention you are seriously devaluing music in general. You're basically shooting yourself in the foot if you ever hope to become a professional.

I agree with this completely.  If anything, selecting such a licence for your work is counter-intuitive and won’t do you any favours professionally speaking.

In addition to listening to as much of the 2014 contributions here as I can, I've been in a heavy Jason Molina phase (RIP) with the reissue of Magnolia Electric Company and Fading Trails.

I finally bought the Magnolia Electric and Hecla & Griper reissue LPs yesterday, and now my Molina discography is complete. And that fills me with such sadness...

I can't bear to listen to anything Molina did since March last year.  It's still too fucking hard.

This looks fantastic.  Hope it goes well!

I'm dealing with it by listening to stuff by tags that would grab me. So tag your stuff well, folks!

That's a great idea, actually.

Yes folks - get tagging.

I know what you mean.  The random play function is great, but I just can't get through these.
