eh?

ur not my mom u cant tell me what 2 do

I assume this post was before it was fixed, but I thought I'd leave a link to the issue tracker in case it pops up again, or in case anybody isnt aware that the issue tracker exists! https://github.com/weeklybeats/issues/issues/17

Hey everyone, this one is already in the WB issue tracker. Tim is a busy guy, but we've been collecting the issues that have cropped up in the site update for him to knock out when he finds the time. You can see known issues and add anything else you spot here: https://github.com/weeklybeats/issues/issues/8

In the meantime, as mentioned, you can manually quote if necessary, using the following format:

Maybe it's a bit fatalistic, but there's not really anything we can do to stop it so I'm not sure its worth worrying about. There is an ethical concern when it comes to neural netwwork-based generation for sure, but its indistinguishable from pieces not using it, or using "traditional" random-number-generator-type generative techniques (which are typically quite popular in niche music communities like this - hello eurorack people!). The argument whether a piece of music is truly "yours" if you used another song's chord progression, or generated part of it, or accidentally used a melody that was in your brain but is only slightly different from one that already exists has raged for decades and will rage more.

The key thing, I think, is that there is no value to anybody in uploading a track that was rendererd wholesale from one of these new fangled "prompt a song" AI music generators, so I trust that people won't bother to do it (and those that do are lost to us already anyway).

I'm a dummy and left mastering until the morning, but in the morning I forgot it was submission day big_smile
Could I please grab an upload link? I was doing so well!

I fucked it up this week and didn't participate in my own damn prompt! I will catch up with this on a later week, but I'm looking forward to listening to what everyone did! If you didn't remember to tag your track, do so, so we can find it!

The theme for this week is SPRING!

Don't forget to use the tag so its easy to find em!

Hey gang, I wanted to do a little collaborative project in 2022; similar to the themes that have been run in the past, but a little more restrained!

For four of the weeks in 2022 I would love it if you join me in creating a piece based upon the upcoming (Northern Hemisphere) season. Exactly how that season is reflected in your track is of course up to you, but I guess I envision something akin to Vivaldi's Four Seasons (genre aside... unless that's your jam tongue ).

Hopefully, we can create a compilation release for each season (we'll work out the details later - but I think a streaming platform release with proceeds to charity would be grand). Participants would tag their uploads here with "weeklyseasons".

Preliminary season weeks would be:
Week 7: Spring
Week 20: Summer
Week 33: Autumn
Week 46: Winter

These weeks chosen because they're in the middle of the grid. big_smile

This is just a spitball idea at this point, so I'm keen to hear your thoughts if you're interested!

If you guys are creating in 2021 come on down to the Discord and share it with us, the server is much more quiet in the off years but we still chat and share what we're working on! Link's on top right of the site.

Didn't complete 52, but that probably wasn't likely to begin with. More than anything I enjoy having the community around as passive peer pressure to create... Even with my sporadic WB uploads the motivation to create without that peer pressure drops dramatically.

Pretty happy overall though, I really dove into vocaloid stuff this year and I have a lot of ammo for a Miku album to work on and release next year!

Looking forward to seeing you all back in 2022!

ITT: User doesn't realise that by streaming the song people are downloading it anyway.

Work out how much time you can reasonably set aside per day to work on your tracks. Schedule it.
When that time comes around, sit down, and put something in your DAW/notebook/down the mouthpiece of your trumpet/whatever that constitutes making music for you.
If that's yet another 4 bar beat, so be it. If it's a verse of lyrics that don't rhyme or even make sense, cool. And if that's all you end up doing, then spend the rest of your allotted time watching Brooklyn Nine Nine, that's ok. Not achieving anything is ok.
Turn making music (this also applies to anything) into a habit, and you'll find you end up doing more than that minimum effort stuff enough that your net productivity is greatly higher than when you only tried when you were motivated. You will never be able to rely on motivation in your life. There are no more zero days!
