im so glad to see so many great/enthusiastic responses to this. i was surprised in 2014 about how many returning and new people decided to participate and im glad to see theres still a bunch of people interested. its a great concept in general and just the idea of doing something publicly keeps you honest to the intentions you have in going into it. something i also want to do in 2016 is maybe hopefully listen and respond to more of my peers submissions :X it takes a lot of time to both make and listen to submissions but since im hoping to cut my time down to an hour on studio time, it might make more sense to listen for a few minutes too!

I've been part of the last couple rounds of weekly beats and i can say it has had a huge affect on my progression as an artist and producer. the first go of it in 2012 i mostly stuck to my trusty gameboy using lsdj and used it as an opportunity to learn about that medium. the second swing in 2014 i went mostly toward the daw and using midi composition and layering to produce my sound and through the course of the year i learned a great deal about that process.
I hope to use this coming year as an opportunity to experiment with sound sourcing and pushing the limits of time utilization. i tend to spend a lot of time listening and reworking my songs and it turns into hours spent happily plugging away at the computer. im hoping that i can find some ways to improve the workflow and optimize my time working on a song so i can be more productive overall.
I am curious to know if other people have had similar growing experiences associated with participating in weekly beats or if others have aspirations for what a project like this could do for their own progress.
TL;DR
THE DAY IS OURS! WHAT WILL YOU MAKE OF IT??!

I dont know.. We talked about this last year but there really are just too many tracks for everyone to listen through them all. having the instant feedback to know which ones are "trending" can be helpful. if you make good tracks people will notice. theres a cheat though if youre desparate/like to game systems. favorite your own track and thats one more than a lot of other people so you jump higher in the rankings but its still just one "hit". i got used to the weighted listings over the course of the year and it made it feel really good when people had genuine feedback to leave for me. but im not sure really. Maybe a random system would be better? im curious what others feel about this

Re: mobile apps for production (15 replies, posted in General Discussion)
all that i have been able to find is sound recorders and dictation apps, but if you have a way to record it like that its possible all be it not the most desirable option. thats a tough one and id love to know if there is a good app for that!

this year i really want to push the quality of the music i write to a new level while keeping the quick workflows i established in WB12. i dont have specifics in mind as for genre/medium but i would expect most of it to be through lsdj and/or ableton live. but if i learned anything last time around its that a year is a long time! 8) good luck to everyone and have fun!
