I can't believe that conversation about gramma actually just happened. (pun intended)
Yeah - I just started tagging my tunes this week. Totally forgot WB doesn't do it!
Weeklybeats is a 52 week long music project in which artists compose and publicly release 1 song a week for the entire year.
Starting January 1st 2024 GMT each participant will have one week to upload one finished composition. Any style of music or selection of instruments are welcomed and encouraged.

I'd love to come Vince... thanks for the invite... but I'm doing 6 days at Rainbow Serpent festival this weekend :-P YYYEEEESSSSSSS. Going to be insane. No idea how going to submit a WB with no phone reception and car blockaded in! lol (Thinking of taking the bus to a "pool party" on the Sunday arvo which puts me temporarily near reception) HAVE FUN!
I often find it's the tracks that are not what you are looking for that often surprise you the most. I've heard some amazing stuff off this years WB so far... most of it random. I just leave it playing while I'm at work :-)
ORIGINAL POST (now updated)
??? I'm (was) having issues in Chrome with things not playing back :-/ When I click tracks or link to them it just lands on the home page. If I try to press play.... same issue. It seems that anything linked to the embedded player just takes me to the home screen. But the files will download ok... just not play.
Firefox works 100% (but it's not my standard browser because I suck)
See http://ctrix.net/wb/wb-02-cap.wmv for screen cap.
EDIT: Cleared all cache / history and now it works. I'm guessing related to cached Javascript
Reversed Samples does sound like fun. But curious to this melody share thing also. Week 4 is pretty much a write off for me as I head to a music festival from Wed onward.
Reaper.
Best thing I ever bought! The MIDI / VST support on it has come along way too and it makes a great host. That said - I don't have any VSTi's other than one acoustic drum VSTi and a freeware orchestral thingo. I do everything else on the Triton / Prophet / DX7 / MC909 as I like actually making my tunes by manipulating raw waveforms and pitching the odd thing around if it's out. (which is why Reaper!)
I want to bust out my new Yamaha DX7 and write some jazz fusion pieces.
Sounds like fun David! I love my DX7 and can totally vouch for it being a blast of a unit to jam with, if a little hissy :-) Make sure you have a fresh, non leaky battery in there to keep your custom instruments safe. Looking forward to hearing what you do with it.
Ok, today is record day, see you all in just under T-Minus 2 days to go!
Hehe.... Aday - you're a bit keen mate to get going mate! It starts in 2 days I'm pretty sure... (I don't think you can upload until then)
The goal of Weekly Beats is a little different (this time) for me. I completed weekly beats in 2012 so I see it as mission accomplished!! My goals back then were to make 52 quality tracks I was proud of and use every instrument I owned. And I managed that. But it caused a few problems like I was forever pulling all nighters (because of being a perfectionist and due time 10am monday morning). WeeklyBeats burnt me out while I was on tour and put some huge pressures on relationships. I probably took about 40 days off work and turned down a few jobs - but that 2012 in a nutshell - the year of the Weeklybeats. So for you first timers, all I can say is GO HARD! Push to the edge and make this your year. It's an awesome thing to do, once.
So this year I'll do it while I can and while it's fun, but if I don't have time or if I have better things to do then I'll skip a week. Or fart into a delay pedal and loop it for 60 seconds (I'm sure littlescale has already secretly done this and released it as an ambient album).
3 basic aims this year:
- More guitar
- Pull drum kit out from storage at least once (been 8 years since it went in! I don't even know if it's still there)
- Do something featuring vocals (which terrifies me)
Good luck everyone!! See you in 9 days :-) (First week def the most exciting)
Oh shit. It's back on!!
I was secretly hoping for WB2015! We'll see how long I last. A lot to focus on this year so might be some pretty sad efforts.
Rad!!! It's a shame I don't currently have enough HDD space :-P Also have to wait for a new month to get our download cap back up. Thanks heaps though!
Maybe in 2014...?
That would give us all a year to recover ;-) and get over the "never again" syndrome. And also give new peeps doing it time to prepare, have a certain starting date, and get a bit of momentum going. I must say, I personally like the text that comes up this year with the retrospective of what Weekly Beats was.
Of course there are a few related projects that have popped up here too (12 EPs, etc) - I'm sure these will give those who want to continue the platform to still be challenged.
I couldn't put my finger on a best track.
But:
Favorite texture :: the guitar sound and micced up cab in this. Don't know why! Guitar intonation waaaaay out meanwhile...

Biggest technical break though :: discovering Drummix for my drums

cTrix liveshow best addition :: This Amiga 500 anthem, I played it at a show a few days later and people clapped at the start

Holy shitcakes. Did we just wake up to discover WB is over?!! I crawled into bed at 7:30am after finishing my tune and lay wide awake wandering wtf had just happened! Can't wait for the party on the 5th. Be sure to tune in and watch THE LIVE STREAM (more deets soon)
Also, is anyone else joining little-scale on his "Daily Albums" project?
Monthly +++++++
Sounds good. Do we just keep using the same site?!
It's Christmas from 2032!! Nice patches. Might come back and to a critique later on :-)
