Pourquoi le ciel est bleu (Feat Theodore)

By djippy on January 3, 2026 2:52 pm

Yeah, why does the sky is blue?

This one was recorded with my little 5 years old Théodore.

Music started way earlier last year, but it was going nowhere. Wanted to use those mellotron strings, had some help generating the chord progression with midi chord generator. Recorded acoustic drums. Then had this idea about a kid asking questions and father is just clueless... (This is most of the time what we are right???)

I am super fortunate that my 5 years old did want to sit with me and record little bits.

Lyrics:

Papa
Pourquoi le ciel est bleu?

Je ne sais pas
Je suis daltonien

Papa

The star of the show! (With blue sky, this is concept...)

By the way, it seems that sky is blue because of the way Sun light hits the atmosphere (wavelength and stuff...) Rayleigh scattering it is called. smile

I wish you all a great 2026, hope this Weekly Beat challenge will be lots more fun than pain.

Added challenge to me this year, workout a bit to get "fit" ish... Getting a bit older (we all do), I realize it will always be more difficult the longest I wait to get back to more sports, pumping more blood... let this heart work a bit more!

I'll try to use the same kind of discipline required to sit-record music to sit on the bike and ride. Started a couple months ago and already have decent results, but yeah it is hard!

That bass synth is brutal, I love it. As always spectacular drumming.
And because it's gradeschool french I actually understood it!
Looking forward to more of your music this year!

Synth and mellotron go great together. Very wholesome collaboration. Good luck with your goals this year.

Such a wholesome song. Love it big_smile

Such a great featuring with Théodore, I love this song ! The concept really match in my opinion

Aww this is so cute. sounds like a fun time.

There's gonna be a day where you have to explain Rayleigh scattering. You had better be prepared for that talk.

Something about a child yelling in French delivers a tier of emotional context that cannot be matched by adults or English.

this is great super cute

i love this so much - totally made my day!

mignon mignon mignon

bonne année djippy & theodore!

pour le jeune scientifique : this is why we percieve the sky to be blue very good theories about the rocket (chemtrails are so strange) and the moon!

i wonder what the sky looks like to you djippy on a bright vs cloudy day?

Such a cool growly synth and always love your drum grooves.  The kit sounds great!  Really cool that you were able to enjoy this experience with your son Théodore.  You are creating wonderful musical memories together.  Glad to have you back for another WB year!

Love the video that Emily did post, it actually explains it pretty decent!

It adds some more questions tho...

Love the video, and I am not actually colour blind... I just found the quote funny for the song. smile

Happy to hear you back! Let's do this together...

Thanks a lot!

I am not sure if a software update or something happened with my connections, but my ADAT plugged pre-amps don't work OK at the moment, at least my sound card itself is fine, I can still use 5 pre-amps if I really have to go that route next time I try to record multi track drums. (Those were recorded earlier last year.)

I know I can get good sounding drums with "only" 5 pre, but it is fun to have the options and to shape-pan the toms as well... Anyways! Not so fun stuff figuring stuff out like this!

Stoked you all listened to my first track! I'll try to cook a cool second one later this week!

This is so ridiculously cute, and a great way to introduce your kid to music making!

crying at how cute this is. you and your kid made my day heart hope you both sing together again on another weekly!

Nice one.

It was super fun indeed! I feel (like I always do with those tracks) that it could be worked to make it even better, it is what it is!

what a cool idea! adorable!

Nice collaboration with Theodore.  The backing music is cool, too.  A nice combo of some sweet string like sounds with some nastier bass sounds.

Woooww soooo cute!!! Love the lyrics and vocals! Groove is beautiful also, drums timing slow kinda stuttering at times, very appropriate, so charming, supports the rest! Strings take it into tears territory! Thanks for this wonderful track!

ohh la la, trés bien les deux! 😊
Nice rough-soft one! happy 2026!

Hahaha... so good!  Great drum grooves and that snare sound is roooooms full of awesomeness.  Your lil 5 year old is actually very pitch acurrate for most of this!!  How cool to have a dad doing this kinda stuff :-D

the vocals! spoken with such conviction, such determination, it feels so epic! you must answer!
answer me now! -> Why IS the sky blue??

This was great! loved the vocals and bass synth

Welcome back man! Great to have you for another year. Enjoyed the warm bass a lot, very nice.

super cute ^^

I cheated for the pitch, did a couple vst pitch correction... wink And yeah this snare drum is fun. Did install another one on the kit at the moment but I feel I'll get back to this one.

Thanks a lot for the comments! It is great fuel for current week.

Hope all of you are doing GREAT!

This is such an adorable concept and collab. heart Fantastic work, both of you. Happy WB 2026! big_smile

Bonjour.

That's kinda all I know. I need to get out more smile

One of my favorite things about WB is hearing people make music with their families. Thanks for that.

This track is so odd, I absolutely love it.

This was a treat to here! The drums are well done. I love me some well played drums but then came the vocals haha. Thank you for composing and sharing this.

Stoked you are back too! I really appreciate your work. We must do a collaboration this year. Some crazy sk8 punk song would be very cool. (with a trumpet part of course...) Maybe even a ska-punk part? I never was that much a fan of this part of the scene, but it was big! lol

Re-listening to it this morning, I am super happy it exists and little Théo did pretty good!!!
