rest in peace

By Q-Rosh on January 21, 2024 6:41 pm

This track came together on an unintended way. one day in November 2023 after work in the clinic, the terminal care of my father, terrorattacks in the world and bad news from everywhere, I took my guitar as usual, to jam to a looper. I was in a melancholic mood and needed to focus on something else. I found the track this week and could pretty resonate with it and wanted to add some textures and instruments. While recording the new layers I lost myself in the music, playing 30-45 minute long new tracks, which had to be arranged into 5 minutes again. The trick I used was, even it is very timeconsuming, to cut them in portions, put them among each other and pick the best parts. I had finally 40 single tracks to chose from and to arrange. A way of procedure like Tim Friese- Greene and Mark Hollis must have done, when they produced spirit of eden and laughing stock. With their tapemachines it took them years to arrange the songs in the 80ies. Nowadays I was successful in 2 days, but missed the 5 minutemark and ended up with 10.07. Drums were played by myself, Reverb via AKG BE20.
The final mix and mastering was challenging due to the endless possibilities. Maybe I could have made more use of the limiter, but the volume-button-value is in your taste.
Of course I want to cut a version (guitar only) of this on polycarbonate, which can be checked at Wilcox raw-cats here on WB, if I succeed.

I've always been fascinated by the Talk Talk approach to those albums and I do get a little bit of that vibe on this track.  It sounds very lush and inviting although for sure tinged with a little bit of melancholy.  I really like this one.

Hello friend. This is like floating down a serene river that eventually ends in a never-ending waterfall. Hope you're ok

Excellent production throughout.  The epiano, farfisa and guitar really hit the melancholy feels.  This would be great in a film where the protagonist is driving through a tunnel with the lights reflecting in nice curvy pattern on the windshield.  Those lil sparkles (i think of the farfisa?) lurking in the background really set the mood too.  Well done!

The drums sounds great. Love the snare (cross stick or just hitting the thing...) the ride sounds very good too.

Really like the Rhodes later on the track. I feel this would work great on some cinematic images.

Wish you my sympathies for your father loss. Track indeed feel peaceful.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sympathy and solidarity.

Beautiful work, and I really hear and appreciate the Talk Talk influence here. There's a great room vibe to it, which reinforces that melancholy.

I love long moody pieces. I wanna put this on all day loop and drive into the desert.

Lovely ride tone and contemplative guitar work.  This one is a cruiser for sure.  Driving through the outback as the sun sets.  Great work with the editing.  Lots of discipline there!

Beautiful! Each layer tells a part of the story and they intertwine and support each other well!

Guitar part is beautiful, and drums are minimalist and effective! Organ is great, piano supports nicely.

Those glitchy effects are harrowing. Near the break at 3:50 ish. This track gives me a similar feeling to what I remember was listening to Pink Floyd early on in my life.

It's a long track, feels endless, like after I stop listening there is a world where it keeps playing, ever evolving but still generally the same vibe. A whole world of this vibe. It's a lovely track, thanks for sharing!

This is a very beautiful piece. I can feel the sorrow and longing in your playing. The music is very peaceful too, I feel enveloped in atmosphere. The glitchy synth adds so much character and feeling as well. I'm also surprised by something as simple as a ride consistently playing throughout a majority of the track can also lull the listener in a peaceful way. I'm sorry about your father. sad Take care, Q-Rosh.

sick dude! nice job!

Ich wünsche Ihnen Ruhe und Trost!

this track is lovely

this sounds really really good. what a delightful track, congrats

Really enjoying this track, lots of cool stuff throughout.

A great journey, I'm just floating along with it. The steady ride cymbal and drums carrying the time along with the guitar and amazing tape textures just enveloping and soothing, outside of the world.

Sorry to hear you have been through some tough times in the last year. This is such a peaceful, soothing journey and I can hear how much music helped you through. Lovely textures and harmonies as always. Also thanks for reminding me that I am pretty much illiterate to Talk Talk's catalog and I ought to catch up.

really beautiful melancholy. i listened to your wilcox raw-cats version first this time, and it's cool to hear the fleshed out one now. keep up the incredible work smile

Love the somber guitar playing in here. Tasteful drumming, well performed and sounds really good too. Lovely. Sorry about your father.

very nice

Sorry to hear about your father.  This is absolutely beautiful, such a joy to listen to this piece of music.

Absolutely beautiful piece, the ride ties it all together taking us on a bittersweet voyage

It really does feel like it's very easy to get lost in the sound waves.
