ICE Them Out

By Paisleyfrog on January 31, 2026 3:18 am

Let's do some punk, shall we?

This song was partially inspired by a...somewhat spirited conversation in the Discord. I won't rehash any of that, but suffice it to say that it got me thinking in an angry direction again. I had thought about doing some rock or melodic metal, but when I sat down in the studio that night...the riffs were punk. Cool, let's go with that...I've been wanting to try that again since WB'24.

The song itself came together in probably an hour and a half, with a half hour of that being spent trying to dial in the guitar and bass sounds...trashy, but not falling apart. I laid down some placeholder vocals, and refined them later that night when my wife came home. She changed the original title I had (ICE Gestapo), and we had a good discussion...it led to some ideas that will end up being Week 6. She had a great lyric suggestion for this week, but the idea deserves way more than a one minute punk song...

Overall, I tried to be a bit more aggressive than last time, and go faster. Wanted to also be a SHORT song, never tried that before. Also tried to sound less like Fred Schneider (IYKYK).

The music was largely set at the end of Thursday night and my wife once again encouraged me to leave it alone...but I did a few more tweaks on Friday (added the solo, cleaned up a few vocals that were maybe a little too rough). OK, maybe not the true punk aesthetic, but neither am I smile

Amusingly enough, the cover art this week fought me way harder than the music. For whatever reason, the ICE logo I grabbed initially refused to export to my final file and kept vanishing. Oddly appropriate, that.

omg epic comment

also I love Fred Schneider so much

May they vanish like their png but moreso. Thanks for this track. Please extend my thanks to your wife, who seems like a really great catch.

Holy Shit, good track with an even better message. I'm in Australia and its hard seeing whats happening in your hometown

Dead Milkmen vibes - timely and with proper anger

Hell yeah, short songs are underrated. Sometimes its nice to just get an aggressive head banger that gets the point across.

This is great, definitely has a bit of Dead Milkmen feel to it, but more angry, which is fitting.

Fantastic. And agreed!!!!!
Fuzzy guitar here rules smile

This rocks from beginning to end! heart the lyrics and your vocals. (Fred is also appreciated). Guitars sound great with the drums too.  Awesome track, fav'ed!

You punk...

Yeah, very disturbing news that goes around the world. Scary times.

This is so fucking cool! Great lyrics and performance, I'm so into this

YES! Love the angry classic punk sound and the lyrics!

HELL YEAH FUCK ICE FUCK ICE FUCK ICE

lol this comment destroyed me too.

Sometimes it only takes a minute to say what you need to say. Killed it, nice job!

FUCK YEAH!
Love this

69 seconds? Nice. But also, you managed to squeeze a solo in there? Awesome. This song takes no prisoners. No notes, five stars.

Appropriately punk rock... nay necessarily punk rock.

We need more punk - nice one

Yes, 100%, yes.  Recent events influenced my latest lyrics also.  Up the punx!

Thanks! I love punk - when you need to deliver your message with a sledgehammer. I'm so proud of Minnesota and how they're coming together and fighting back.

Thank you so much! They're definitely one of my influences (along with Dead Kennedys and Black Flag).

I always think of the Rollins quote talking about Black Flag songs - "the shortest and most direct route to whatever the fuck the song was about". Get in, rip it up, get out!

ANGRY MILKMEN. Thank you so much!

Thank you! Took a bit to dial in those tones, they kept wanting to fall apart under their own force smile

Thanks! Punk is like a distillation of what I'm trying to do this year - don't overthink, just do!

My wife often says I over repeat myself in songs, so getting in and getting out FAST is good practice smile  Thank you!

69 seconds - I didn't even notice. LOL

I went back and forth on the solo because I really wanted to keep the song shorter than a minute - but I'm glad it worked, thank you so much!

snarl on, my Friend

Hello Sex Pistols. I feel like you could have fit right in in North Ireland in the early 90s too, which suggests that the voice of revolution and revolt and disobedience might be a common song that weaves its way through the human history of oppression.

No notes, all respect, Great Genre Chameleon Warlock.

Hell yeah. Solidarity. Fuck those fascist thugs. Give em the boot.

You and your wife make quite the dynamic duo of creative awesomeness, this song is so satisfying in its fully encapsulated expression of both angst and release! Short and crisp! #ICEOUT!
