Gravest Gardener returns with a new title: The BringItBackers.

This week I'm taking a shot at the "game over" theme - and reintroducing the third and final party member. After all, who else but a necromancer could keep bringing everybody back from the dead?

Accordingly, this one mostly draws from "necromancer's theme" from 2024 - but there's a hint of another 2024 theme in there for good measure:
necromancer's theme
cloud pop
rain drop

Happy Week 10 everybody! We're in the double digits now. Spring forward, friends, and keep up the great work!

this track makes me feel romantic for this necromancer

Every party of adventurers needs a talented necromancer.  It fits with the feeling of Spring and life returning to the world.  I like how there's a sense of the mystical in the music, but I do feel a hopeful note, like rebirth and starting over.

sounds good! feels good! please continue!

Ooof loving this chord progression and how the bass drives it forward but those lil synths bouncing around it support it so nicely.  Also a haunting theme that plays in response to the darker synths.  Well done!

God mode synths in this one. The pad washes, the arping elements, the accents...all high quality stuff.

nostalgia bomb from the START. Killer build. Wave like undulating with the melodies and chord changes and letting things breathe. May I request in addition to the lore, a sound design debrief. These synths are amazing.

Bringing back people from the dead is literally a necromancer’s job description. I like this blade runner version of a fantasy game. This is tastefully done!

Hypnotic! Really digging that chord change for the B section, too.

Love my weekly trip to the meadow under the huge open sky. Absolute highlight of the week.

So pastoral and lush! The pads and the play between the synths and guitar-like arp that shows up here and there are super cool. This piece is compelling but relaxing at the same time. Really awesome!

Incredibly lush synths on this one! Really enjoyed being transported away by it. Wonderful stuff!!

Gravest Gardener is the best Necromancer name ever! Really loving this one, the way the bass line interplays with the melody is so awesome, chef's kiss!

The mixing on this is superb. That low end feels so full and grounded that when a note change finally comes it feels like a big shift. The arps and melodies are great, and I especially love that vocal-sounded synth that trails distantly after the lead synth melody.
Btw, game over music maybe shouldn't be this vibey XD or maybe it should, maybe I'm supposed to sit and reflect on my failure in a more meditative way. It's cool to see the roadmap for future tunes too!

Sure thing! It's mostly stuff from KORG Legacy Collection - M1. This year especially I'm making more of an effort to dig more into it beyond just the sounds I usually roll with. Beyond that as the starting point, it's just EQ and various effects plugins (usually especially tremolo, echo, distortion, etc.). I do also spend a lot of time fretting over ADSR envelope parameters whenever I have control over them.

Let me know if there's more detail you were looking for, happy to answer any questions. Thanks for the request, and for listening! heart

Hehe, yeah, maybe it shouldn't usually be too vibey, and it definitely shouldn't be this long. 😅 People probably don't want to spend even four seconds on a game over screen, much less four minutes. My thought for this was that the "game over" segments could be a chance to reflect with the necromancer on what went wrong leading up to the party's defeat, or to show a future montage of everything that falls apart if the game ends where the party fell. (One of my favorite RPGs, Radiant Historia for the DS, kind of did that in its own way.) Thanks for listening VL!

Thank you!

What I'm imagining is the game over screen being gameplay as well, the land of the dead you still walk through and do stuff.

Great progression and awesome bass writing, it keeps the main melody evolving, overall great vibes!! heart
