Bandcamps neat. Anyone put their WB up there?

not original ones, but quite a few that are based on weekly tracks.

responses range from "mastering is so simple that i wouldn't pay anyone or a bot to do it, just throw a limiter on there and turn up your volume" to "mastering is such a complex art that there's no way a bot could do it." i'm somewhere in the middle, i think that mastering is a simple enough task that it's feasible to train a bot to do a good job.

my 5 cents:

for me the way i look at mastering has changed in the past years.

it was always crucial for me to get the best mastering and i did spend an awful lot of cash on it.

but since computers got so powerful recently, and because of that the quality of plug ins are way better than 10 years ago, my approach changed.

my ears are well trained by now, plus i have very nice speakers and a decent room.
so, most of the things that had to be "fixed" in mastering are now part of my mixing process.

that said, mastering mainly became an technical issue for me at this point. but... for example, you need to know a lot about the process of vinyl cutting to make a good master.

so, for everyday uses, like weekly, i'm fine to just slap it into ozone8 and make some
additional tweaks. for "real" releases like on vinyl, or special purposes like club music or cinema, i still prefer to give my tracks to a decent mastering studio.

how much better or worse is this compared to, lets say the ozone8 AI algorhythm?

i worked with my trusty genelecs for almost wo decades, and i recently switched to some new monitors.
and boy, has the game changed in the last years.
i totally recommend the ilouds from IK multimedia.
now i'm finally hearing all the mistakes that i did in the past.

but be aware that it is not fun to listen on these smonitors.
it's like listening through a magnifying glass.
if you want something that also works for recreational listen, you want something else.
the ilouds are a tool, but a great one.

i'm using cubase 5 on an ancient mac. plus a good soundcard and some trusty genelec speakers.

i like a mix of sampled instruments and live recording best.
so guitars, bass, percussion, voice and other sound gadgets will be used as well.

It's not exactly what you are looking for, but if you favorite a song from an artist, all of that artist's tracks will then show up in the Filter Artists you've favorited when you filter in the music page: https://weeklybeats.com/music

thanks manette. already discovered that and using it...

i love stats like this. thanks for sharing!

so WB does only happen any other year? why is that?

What tips can people suggest to tackle this task?

unfortunately, i don't have the time to listen to everything, although i'd like to.

i got some heat in the past for suggesting to solve the problem by establishing a filter option that enables one to filter out certain members that upload certain styles one is not interested in in the first place.

for some reason that was considered offensive or rude.

for me, it would definately help me to focus on the things i might find interesting.

although i found some really awesome trunes in the paste here, right now i rarely find the time to listen to anything, because i'd have to dig through too much stuff to find the goodies.

there are certain songs that always show up on top of the list, even if i'm choosing
"Search Filter: Music you haven't listened to".
does anyone know why that is?
