I know there's a few of us around here who primarily work on traditional instruments (though probably in unconventional ways) for our Weeklybeatz.
Any other instrumental or instrumental based composers/musicians/producers/sound artists around?

This, I typically follow a process but it normally begins like that.

-Hear it in my head
-Express on double bass (fingering/bowing patterns)
-Analyze and understand the theory of it. (Trying to boost practical theory knowledge/application)
-Develop material by improvising, composition processes or just hearing the next part in my head.
-Work Ableton (reverb, minor EQ, tidy clips, arranging or repeating a loop though I try to keep it as organic as possible)

+1 to just making something. It gets easier every week and even in a bad headspace/uncreative mood one of the best things for me was to persevere and create something.

Indie-Classical, Contemporary classical, minimalist, experimental, electro-acoustic.
Classical is a pretty 'loaded' term so I try to unload it

The core is essentially trying to push my instrument (double bass) into as many different styles, genres, as I can but it does lend itself to the 'classical' tradition.

I think that's the key. When I did my first WB back in 2012 I kept it all to myself, with almost no feedback and hardly ever listening to other people's music. When I got back in 2014 I started feeling this more like a community and less like "homework". Truth is I produced some music in 2015, but missed all the great musicians that were a true inspiration throught 2014.

I can totally relate to that. If you remember '12EPs' (Weekylbeats spinoff in 2013) it was almost the same format except there was no commenting on tracks which meant that nobody got to communicate. I finished it along with 3 others but there was no community and it just felt like homework. WB14 was a completely different experience.

So many familiar faces!
So keen to get back into the WB routine.

Wait: it looks like the main site page has been reset for submissions.

Nooooooooo.  A year off would be nice!

And jiffypop73.....  you've missed me off of the 52/52 club.  I also did the 12 eps in between those years smile

I second this!

A year off would be great and I also completed the largely forgotten 12EPS in 2013!

The direction I've taken has been more of an exploration in what I can actually do with the double bass (looping, solo, extended technique, electronic manipulation).
Apart from detouring into 'sound deconstruction' for the middle of the year, I composed some dissonant pieces that I would not normally have done and quite enjoyed it.

The summary of the weeklybeats experience will become apparent next year when I actually have more time to develop pieces I believe.

One of my favourite parts of the week is listening to as many submissions as I can. I'm probably listening to WB tracks more than my own library of music at the moment. Keep up the awesome submissions!

Indeed, it has been a quick 26 weeks and we're still comfortably over 100 submissions too! smile

I flunked WB in 2012 but I completed the weeklybeats spinoff '12Eps' (an EP each month) in 2013. I did a mix of stuff but started experimenting more with double bass.

I'm kind of using wb as an 'experimental arena' to keep testing out looping/double bass compositions and see what I can come up with. I'll probably re-record my best tracks from WB and make an album out of them and create a live set to start up my own solo music act.
Also, listening to the huge array of tracks from other artists is awesome, the community here is brilliant. :D

Melbourne here. Heatwave has put a halt to my recording & income. The double bass is locked up in a cold closet away from the heat & studio. Also had to cancel private teaching because my studio does not have air con.

Ouch dude... unfortunate.
I'm down for this. Bring on the black metal!  \m/ ( O_O ) \m/

Shared melody? wink
