Nope, it actually says "abyssism" in a super abstract typeface I designed.

My track for this week (ie. just uploaded) is part of this new EP I just released for my new project:

My aim is to release as many of these EPs as I can, and then possibly re-purpose selected tracks into a more polished release.

Can't resist a space comp! Not sure where in the county I'll be or what equipment I will have so it might sound a little odd. At minimum I'll just make a lot of sounds with a 20 second reverb on :-P

It's been pretty easy for me so far. I think the next few weeks will be dedicated to OP-1 jams; it's just so easy to get something cool going!

Re: Make An Album in a Month? (3 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I made an experimental metal album in a month a few years ago; in fact I went one step further and made a track every day. It's funny because you can really hear the quality slip where I couldn't be bothered, especially towards the end. Still, it's a pretty ridiculous listen.

Re: Instrumentalists report in! (16 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I know there's a few of us around here who primarily work on traditional instruments (though probably in unconventional ways) for our Weeklybeatz.
Any other instrumental or instrumental based composers/musicians/producers/sound artists around?
I play guitar, mostly, and have a small amount of skill on piano (nothing special). I've tried drums before but never got beyond post-rock drumming (ie. lazy) or just smashing out a beat on some drum pads.. I'd love to learn drums properly though.
BTW, do you busk in Carlton? I was walking through Carlton lastnight and saw someone who looked like you playing double bass, but wasn't sure.

I came across a discussion I had on facebook in 2014 about samples for WB entries, regarding the Seinfeld music.
Considering the Seinfeld theme almost exclusively uses sounds from the Alesis HR-16B and Korg M1, would it count as copyright infringement if I used the same sound set (ie. if I actually used Korg M01D and a HR-16B), but with my own melodic content?

hah yeah, a space/cosmic theme is something that I have to try hard *not* to adhere to
I'd love to try something similar to this 'battle' I missed out on over at the OP-1 forum:

Is it possible to edit the copy accompanying an upload before it goes live? I clicked again on the upload button, but it doesn't seem to take me to the post.
Thanks in advance!
If you go to your profile and click the link for your latest track, you can edit the text in there.

Re: Your process right now (37 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Yeah same, lately I've been getting an idea for what I want to do before I get a chance to put it into a pattern on a machine or software.
Usually once I've got it down it evolves quite heavily, especially with my current setup which caters pretty well to evolving structures. As a result, most of my recent tracks have been edited down from a longer session dedicated to building the patterns and the natural progress that comes from happy accidents. I'm hoping that through practice, I can get these sessions down to short enough durations to allow me to basically take my machines out to a gig and play a set with minimal pre-programmed material. Currently I'm averaging 40–60 minutes of raw material per track, so I've clearly got a long way to go before I can crank out decent tracks on the fly!

Yeah, I'm hoping my focus for this year can be long-form jams with the occasional prog song thrown in. I'm also playing around with the idea of extreme repetition as a deliberate stylistic choice; so much so that I may actually have to disclose that when uploading tracks, for fear of people commenting saying "this is too repetitive" when it is the main focus of the track

Yeah sorry, fixed. Some faulty logic from 2014.
You should be able to upload tomorrow, first day doesn't count.
no probs, thanks! I forgot about the "listen today, upload tomorrow" thing

Is there supposed to be a countdown clock for submissions? I know there was one for when the week started but I don't see nothing no more nowhere no how
yeah the upload link still doesn't go anywhere either

Re: what has everyone been up to? (23 replies, posted in General Discussion)
In 2015 (and the second half of 2014) I played too many gigs to really concentrate on writing new music, which is bizarre, since I used to complain a lot about not playing live enough. That said, some gigs in Japan helped me to build up a nice set of patterns in nanoloop which ended up becoming my latest album nanodisco.
I attempted to create a new micro-genre of music called DETHWAVE—based on slowed down death metal samples/loops, lo-fi synths and a DOOM II visual aesthetic—and was largely unsuccessful, however semi-well-known vaporwave artist NMESH was inspired by it and ended up releasing some music under the name ZONE EATER; we also collaborated on a track.
I also arranged a version of Steve Reich's Piano Phase for two copies of nanoloop, and somehow it managed to get quite a few youtube views.. and it was even performed live without my involvement, which was pretty surreal.
In November I started planning the audio/visual design style of a new project called 0F.digital, with a focus on creating minimalist industrial/IDM tracks using (mostly) digital hardware. I'll probably hold off on playing live shows while I develop this style a bit more (unless they're particularly amazing shows ).
Huh, I guess I did do a few things after all!
