I don't have a 'setup' per se, but rather a bunch of stuff to be used as needed.

Hardware:
A small eurorack setup (not much use because I want to expand it but don't want to spend the money)
Some non-racked eurorack stuff (independent/portable)
Some semi-modular stuff
A tape machine
Organelle M
Arturia BSP and some other controllers
Zoom H6N recorder
A soldering iron (maybe this will be the year...)

Computer stuff:
MaxMSP
Pure Data
SuperCollider
OpenMusic (but probably won't use it)
Ableton Live (9, suite)
TidalCycles/Hydra
Processing/P5/JS (I would like to make some stuff entirely in JS, that's a fun challenge)
Finale (probably not this year...)
ChucK (this might be the year...)
SunVox (also on iPad and iPhone)

iPad
A bunch of quirky music-making software.

Yee.

I guess also probably actually listen to people's submissions. But I don't like my chances.

I'm trepidatious about doing this at all, but we'll see. It would be good to finish.

1. Hardware.
2. Live Coding
3. Weird programming shit I dunno.

Reality:

1. Bang out some shit in Ableton close to the deadline.

Is the + symbol on the calendar page pink or blacked out for you? If the latter, you may have already uploaded something and can edit/replace (prior to deadline) by going to your profile and clicking on the submission. If it's still pink, try clicking on that?

Is that the same as musictheory.net?

I missed a week for the first time in three years. I just forgot about it entirely. There you go.

i gotta say though, KORG Gadget has been a Godsend.  it's become my go-to tool for the "oh crap i only have an hour to do this" moments where i want to come up with something decent in the least number of steps.  in WB2014 i had no such tool to fall back on, and my year ended up being a lot more stressful as a result.

I think I need this tool!!

I'm on my balcony mixing shivering in the cold because housemate's already been up twice blasting me for making noise (it's 5am) and...  yeah... it's 5am and I have to work pretty soon.  Shit crashed earlier on and I lost what I'd been workin' on from 8pm - 12am.   I've already slept though 2 meetings last week... did a full on no-show for a conference call and lost around $5k of work.  So I can easily say Weekly Beats is fucking up my life because I'm shit at prioritising.  But neh - I said I'd put music first this year.  So I fuckin am.  Boom.  If anyone else in the same situation, I applaud you.  It's the only way we're gonner get though this without feeling disappointed.

Man, it sounds like you just need to be able to work on the go. In a train? Do 15 mins. Taxi? Bust out your WB. Accumulate all that time incrementally rather than in one sitting the night before deadline.

Hi y'all,

I'm not sure if it's just me, but it seems the most recent Firefox update broke WBs' playback and upload functionality.

Still works without any problem in both Chrome and Safari for OSX, so it's not really a problem. Just wondering if anyone can replicate the issue or whether it's just me; if it's more than just me, then I figured someone out there would like to know.

Just thought I'd point out that both the uploader AND the playback are not working for me in Firefox (latest) on OSX, but the uploader at least is perfectly fine on Safari.

Hey, this is particularly for US-based folks who may be interested in some stuff.

This is happening this coming Saturday: Cicada Consort at the University of Alabama. They are showing one of my stereo works: A Semblance of a Whole (B) [2015] in the fixed media listening room.

If you happen to be around/in that geography, it's free/donation encouraged for a shitload of exciting music.

Finding myself time-strapped. But I don't labour over the WB adventure at all, so it's not a big deal.

Damn it!  Your tracks are next level and have some amazing write ups to match :-P

Haha, you can talk! As you say: production/quality control kicks in for you.

**Disclaimer: not a mod and have no opinion from the WB perspective.**

There are a lot of variables here.

1. Using just chords - no problem, not copyrightable in the first place.
2. Melody is the identifier, this is the thing that can't be used legally without paying royalties or without permission from the copyright holder.

One question to consider is how much of it is YOUR music if you are using the defining characteristics of an existing piece of music?

There are certain laws in effect in different parts of the regarding arrangements of existing material, but an arrangement is (usually) a substantial and original alteration to the original, which is different to a cover in the sense that I think you're talking about it. However, a cover (and cover bands, for eg.) often do their own arrangements of material.
