My sympathies. I enjoyed his work as well.

Take care.

Just so I can come here by the end of this year and assess...

- 52 tracks? I suppose so, but this was achieve already in 2020 and 2022 so I know I can do it.
- Upload less "sketches", try to upload mostly more "polished" material. (We will see about this one, I do that for fun first and I know that I don't mind that much listening to some less polished tracks sometimes, but I wish I would take time to make it finish)
- Improve my actual playing: piano, guitars, bass guitar and drums. (I know I did improve a little bit on the previous runs which is pretty cool.)
- Learn new tools (not sure which ones, but maybe some of those crazy new AI tools, or new plugins, etc...)
- Explore some genres that I am not too familiar with.
- Sing more. An hard one for me as I sing so far only for those weekly beats and I did learn a little bit about what it can do, but it is humbling and difficult to let it go...
- Do the best I can at any given week.
- Create maybe at least 1 or 2 videoclip this year?
- By the end of this year, maybe releasing a "best of" of my solo material on the "big" platforms.
- Add some pictures to many of my submissions.
- Take the time to comment tracks.
- Not using too many pre-fabricated drums (midi loops), try to track a lot of acoustic drums.
- HAVE FUN!!!!
- Some collaborations (other than with Bertrude bandsmate), did only one last run, I should do more.

Thanks for this Drew.

I am pretty "lazy" with my music as I have a pretty filled up life already, but weekly beats is a very good motivator to sit, record and listen to some of your guys crazy tracks.

I am very sorry about the rule that says it have to be a "Finish" track and not a WIP as I personally did cheat quite a bit about this one rule with track are for sure finished for now but more of an idea than a completed track. Ooops. You can put me in the weekly beats jail now.

But hell yes it helped me a lot with my workflows and sometimes listening back to 2020 and 2022 tracks I find little gems.

Welcome to all the rookies, and very happy to see multiple veterans.

Rock! (or any genre, it doesn't matter)

I think it is a very complicated topic. I wish AI would be mostly used to get rid of the tedious work that doesn't requiers "artistic" views. That we can use computers-robots to do the non creative tasks for us. I think it is all right to use computer as compagnions-tools to create as well but there are multiple ethical questions that comes with this.

I'll most likely try some of those new tools this year, probably will try to find some cool vocal generators, I already use auto-tune (with lots of me doing the work, but still, it is an AI tool I suppose). I use stretch audio to "fix" things up as well. I use LANDR "AI" Mastering too.

Never just feeded ideas to a computer and just used the output and I don't think I'll ever do that. I like to play instruments, to think of melodies and created more than "build" using already existing or generated lines.

I believe that with all the data available computer training is powerful and that it can generate very effective tracks by itself, but I like the idea of a human or group of human just sitting together and trying to build an idea-emotion, not selecting multiple elements of some of the music that did work good so far...

Hope it is on too, and pretty sure it will be! Get ready for some djippy messy stuff. Didn't record much music this year and I wasn't sure I'd come back after 2022 run, but now I am motivated (still procrastinating and not recording anything, but will do at some point... lol)

See you soon!!!

Happy new year all!!!

I probably will take a break, but I "already" miss it... So who knows. I might join the streak too?

Fun idea, I'll probably go for this for a track this year, maybe I'll try to give it a shot next week.

I did a little something, not really proud of it, but lyrics are about spring...

https://weeklybeats.com/djippy/music/le-printemps

It is harder for me this time than last run I did in 2020... I assume it is because of the family situation (kids are now 1 - 5 - 10 years old, the 2 smaller ones are quite a bit of energy to put on)

I struggle to put much time into my weekly beats, but have my good times recording stuff, even if I am not a great performer.

I don't have too much motivation to get into new tools either (I do stick to Cockos Reaper, even if I do have a Logic Pro and Ableton 11 licence installed on my computer)

I want to put some time on the rock band as well, we do have many songs ready, some of them recorded, some to be recorded but with life, covid and other bad excuses, this doesn't move forward too much. I was able to play with the guitarist of the band last evening and it was fun, but we kinda suck (long time without practice so it is what it is...)

Still, doing those I am pretty sure I improved my understanding of mixing, have more efficient workflows.

I'll probably explore some other genres during the year, probably will try to do a couple of tracks more sample oriented (I do track pretty much all what I do so far this year, did cheat for a midi drum track on my 'Attack on Titans' track).

Anyways, It is more fun than pain so far so I'll try to get another 52 this time.

So far for me tracks rarely starts the same. I try to go by theme, but sometimes just fiddle with instruments to get started as well.

In 2020 I did a reggae track, a french (ish) waltz, tried to do a full 80's track, etc...

limitation on hardware-instrument can work as well, did compose 2 track using only my Android phone and bandlab (Which gives crazy amount of choices too... but different workflows)

Did try new DAW (I jump from Cockos Reaper, to Logic Pro, to Ableton, but I am more used to Reaper).

Did start some tracks as well using only some freestyle recorded drums then start editing...

Anyways, I can't find an idea yet for this week track so I'll have to dig a little. smile

Damn, looks like submit button did submit twice...

Okay, looks like the "work week" starts in a few hours (Sunday, Jan 2) and then the songs are due Sunday, Jan 9.  Good luck everyone!

Rock yeah!!!

I do have one ready for upload. Nothing too kickass, but still I think you'll like it. wink

I didn't do much music last year, will see if I'll be as disciplined-stubborn as WB2020... But it is a nice way to get motivated and work on some tracks!!! smile
