Le printemps

Another one done...

I didn't put that much time into the mix, it feels muddy to me (maybe too much delay/reverb, and didn't take too much time to clean guitars), but if I want to upload something, it has to be this or another little jam recording and I need to keep some of those for when I had really nothing done...

Did start with recording some rock drums in my garage... Then added some chords with an e-piano with tremolo. Added an fm synth bass, distorted guitars. Tried a solo. Kept the "ok ish" parts, chopped the too ugly notes from it.

Did see on the forum that we could do a "Spring" themed song, so I added some spring related vocals to it:

Printemps, je t’attends
Hiver tu perdures

Printemps, je t’attends
Le re-nouveau, le beau. Le printemps…

Les mini jupes
Me fond rêver!
Les belles jambes à regarder.

Are you a fan of The Mars Volta? I get some of those vibes here, but I don't know what specifically. They have those semi-ambient interludes on "Frances the Mute" and this has a similar atmosphere except a fully formed song. The drums sound nice here and I think the solo came together well. I too tend to "Comp" my guitar solos quite a bit, just recording a loop over the solo section until I'm bored of soloing and then go through my takes and take the best snippets. Wish I could give some advice on the mix, I'm still figuring that stuff out myself. I don't really think it sounds muddy as much as I think maybe the levels need to be tweaked across the tracks so some parts are louder than others, and then maybe cutting out unneeded frequencies for that instrument so it can be louder without stepping on the others. I still have a very basic understanding of mixing, haha.

When you said "clean guitars", I thought you meant literally wipe them down with a cloth or something before playing them lol. They sound squeaky clean to me!

I do like what they do but never dig into their discography. And yes I do "comp" my solos as well, I do some very ugly notes sometimes... lol. I don't play much guitars (I should play more as it is a super fun instrument, especially when playing alone.)

That I should do as well as my guitars are pretty dusty, but I just didn't put any processing at all (eq or compression) on the 2 guitar tracks, it is the direct out sound from my amp (and I did aux send signal to delay and I think reverb, that is it)...

Happy you like how they sound.

Here you go!

Haha en voila une jolie celebration du printemps! J'aime bien l'ambiance du solo de guitare et les paroles. smile

I second the Mars Volta feel. Its got that vibe to me. Lovely snare tone too!

Loving your drum sound as always. Sounds so open and wonderful. Cool guitar solo work too, with awesome lead tone. Nice job.

I'm getting dark eerie vibes, spooky! Good to hear you playing again smile

This week I had nothing on Sunday, so I'm already into the using old pieces. Nice you have kept yours in reserve for another day.!

This feels like a slightly different vibe this week, while still sounding like you.  Perhaps it's a smidge more laidback and mellow?  Maybe that's the spring feeling.  I like it!

Thanks! I am not that confortable on the guitars, but it is so much more fun to play when you are alone than drums... I always do the same power chords...

All good! I have quite a bit of un-release material with Bertrude, I might need it at some point this year... I didn't think I would go for 52 again this 2022 run since I do not have to prove this to myself anymore since I did 2020, but I am getting a rhythm and I think I'll do it again. We will see.

Same, but different! smile

Thank you all for the kind words.

Looking at the news and following that Ukraine/Russia conflict, this is quite scary. I do work with some contractual Ukrainian developers, hope this can stop as soon as possible, and that there will not be too many ruined life... sad

Take care all!

love the song!  i would decrease the vocal volume a little or bring every instrument volume up.

but the mix is great otherwise!

Everything sounds great with your vocals!  Guitar lead came out well. Raw but very melodic. The drums are very expressive. I like how they change throughout the song.

Very cool song!  Love the lead/solo guitar.
