It's good to be back!
This week started as chill lo-fi beats and quickly became a Metroid Prime esque planetary exploration of a strange alien world.

This was all done on the M8 and my guitar.

It is very good to be back and I can't wait to listen to all your music.

The chords on this are so effing perfect, brings such dimension to the track.

Welcome back bro!

happy new year bp!  here we go!  great music for take off!

This alien world is certainly an intriguing one to explore.  It's slightly mysterious, but also seems to be full of wonders.

Digging the deep atmosphere paired with that high whistling lead. Really cool combo!

Those deep pads are wild.

Really like the interesting choice to put the snare to the right instead of center.

Well played.

... ok, but now I have to hear how the lofi track that lead to this... (⌒▽⌒ゞ... that growlly bass is just exactly the right kind of evil for this track.  I guess that's probably why it "quickly" became what it is.  Total vibe.  Great start to the year.

Absolute vibes. I'd love to hear you revisit for a cleaner mixdown at a later time. This is a great concept. The power guitar coming in around 3:20 gives me Queen Flash Gordon OST feels.

The highs and the lows of this track are great - like others have said, that growling bass and the whistling lead. And when things hit at 3:22? AWESOME.

Love the dark lofi feel from that opening chord.  Chill laid back groove that gets you nodding along right away. Suhweet panning on the hats as they subtly travel around the stereo field.  The turn at around 2:58 is a nice change of a pace especially as it introduces the higher arpy notes.  Guitars are friggin \m/ I went from a head nod to metal nod.  The synth lead is soulful and takes advantage of the gritty guitar supporting it.  Well done and good to see you back.

epic Barrister right out the gate! heart

Hot daaaaamn, such a deep and ominous start!! And those tom fills around 0:50 and 1:00, delicious!!
Ah yes, the theremin instantly takes me to Metroid Prime, hahahaha..
Man, this sounds so great! If this is how you're starting 2026, I'm excited to see what else you come up with!

Oh snap, there's an angry section!?!? I had to come back and post about it 'cause it's just so fun, hahahaha... Very nice!

Thank you! I do love my evocative soundscapes.

I really love the theremin/whistle sound. One day I'd love to be able to perform the both the solos on theremin and guitar.

An unexpected error! I had panned it right and had a second snare panned slightly left for the second section and forgot to remove the pan for the first part! Deep bass pads are my passion.

You can kinda hear it in the chords of the first section, originally the drums had a gritty low pass filter on them giving it a very lo-fi kinda vibe, but yes, that brutal bass pad definitely changed my vision for it immediately.

Thank you! Referencing that OST is high praise!

I was thrilled with how the stark difference of each section meld in that final 4 bars. It's such a satisfying conclusion.

Thank you! The chords in the first section are so tasty. A saw swarm lead and a guitar rhythm is one of my favorite sounds. Happy to be back!

The linndrum toms are just so iconic. I love them. I want a physical theremin so I can embarrass myself on it and be humbled instantly. I can't help but include something 'angry' and devastating. I am too addicted to distortion.

Welcome back!  It's mind-blowing to see the kinds of sonic territory folks are able to chart with the M8.  This one is so... solidstudiocinematic.  It's going to be a tough planet to explore.

This is so cool. Love the ambiance and the progression and that moment around 3 minutes when the bleepy synth comes in is such a nice moment

Very tight, To me it would fit perfectly on one of the Factorio Planets!
And I consider Factorio's music top notch!

Oh, i forgot: HNNNG SAW SYNTH!

The M8 is such a cool device and I'm only scratching the surface.

Thanks! I love the M8s wavsynth for arpeggios. I'm really happy with how the progression flowed. I'd wanted to have an exploratory mystical feeling section then a more ominous battle section connected by tempo and percussion.

I think I'm definitely leaning into my habit of making looping video game music. I haven't played Factorio, but I have dumped inordinate hours into its sister game Satisfactory. I'll definitely give the soundtrack a listen.
I love saw swarm paired with a guitar.

if you do, while the main planet ost is great, some of the most intense bangers can be found in its space age dlc, my favorite being: "Factorio: DLC Space Age (OST) - Fulgora #7" this is so otherwordly it gives me goosebumps. (also 110% fits the Fulgora planet)
Though, truly, the music works best when playing the game, but.. thats just me tongue

THE FACTORY MUST GROW!!
*runs off*

cybertripunk power. Awesome, mate with m8, really there.

Welcome back, always a fan of swoops.

They're my favourite. If I can sneak in a tom fill, I will.

Wow that’s an epic track to start the year! Heavy and threatening, dark electronic. Very nice combination of sounds, with a mix really full but well balanced. I like also how the track evolves and takes us through different places and emotions.

Love this track, everything sits so well and knows its role, nothing is too loud or out of place.  That whistling soft lead just floats over the beat, second half gets a little darker but still grounded with the chill beat.

I find these M8s always tend to sound pretty damn good sonically.

Love the pace on this one as it gives it some menace and the melody is more haunting. This guitar addition later with the diving synths is super tasty.

Thanks! I always lean towards spooky sad sound scapes.

Thank you! I was really happy with the mix. Everything felt like it had room and intent.

It's an incredible device and I keep finding new things I didn't know it could do.
I was initially planning to play the lead in the second section on my guitar, the saw swarm was a placeholder, but the two of them together was so delicious.

The M8 looks so inviting but my brain doesn't gel with trackers for some reason.  I love the sound of them though. I've tried several times over the years and it's weird because I can delve deep into Max/MSP or complex modular patches and sound design but trackers.... nope.  Haha.

Probably a good thing otherwise it'd be another thing for me to dive deep into.  Choose your battles right.  Heh.

ooooh this one slams you with it's ambiance right away!
I like the way the drums are mixed too

The wispy lead is really neat! And that inverted noise riser was really cool...

Yo the track just keeps on getting better with each layer haha

I get why you associate it with Metroid, god I love that soundtrack so much haha... Made a track or two in 2024 like "N07M37R01D"

Downloaded!

Thank you! I'll definitely have to check out your Metroid stuff. I love sci fi ambience and conveying mood in walls of sound.

Damn, now I want tot buy a guitar big_smile

Hell yeah. Guitar gang rise up!

GUITAR GANG!  love it!

beautiful part with contrast between the tender theremin-like melody on top of the heavy, dark fundament
