Feeling a bit creatively bankrupt this week so I pulled up some old shit from like 2013 that I never recorded. Deets in the song notes. Also, this song has like zero dynamics, lol. It’s LOUD. Some legit speed trash on account of I made this last night, it's 190bpm, and the mix sounds like it's inside a trashcan.

Adding death growls to this song would have been nice, but I'm not as good at them as I used to be. Growling requires a lot of power and control, which I had previously honed during my hour long commutes to work back when I was in my old band. These days I work from home and whenever I try to practice my dog gets startled and starts barking at me, haha.
Anyway, onto the origin of this tune. Before I started weekly beats in 2020, my go-to method for creating songs was tabbing them out in Guitar Pro 5. I have a ton of tabs for all sorts of songs that I've never actually recorded. Whenever I've tried to record some of these songs for weekly beats, the results have always been subpar. The main issue was that I focused solely on arranging the song rather than thinking about how it should sound. This particular song comes from a file I named "Half and Half" because my guitar is tuned halfway between drop C# and standard (C#-G#-C#-G-B-E). It started as a collection of metal riffs that flowed together decently, but it always felt unfinished. Lately, I've been trying to embrace the idea of letting a song develop naturally, even if it feels like it ends abruptly, which is the case here. In all honesty, given the lack of dynamics, I think 2 minutes of a heavy metal assualt that abruptly ends is probably the best thing I could do for it.
To try to get a decent sound, I decided to create a template in Reaper based on the settings I used for "Toxic Frame of Mind" and used that as a foundation. While it sounds okay, it's a reminder that a template alone isn't enough for a professional-level polish. I probably should have spent more time fine-tuning the tones to suit this song, but I started this project last night after a few failed attempts at other songs this week. Also, something went wrong with my Addictive Drums plugin in the process of copying it over from the previous project to this one. All the sends got all fucked up and it’s layering the same reverb-esqe sound over and over again which is giving it this really distorted tone. I tried investigating the cause but couldn’t figure it out so I just brought the volume sliders way down.
