Sunset at the Gallows

By ViridianLoom on March 27, 2022 10:03 pm

Been spending a lot of time these last few works learning html/css as a stepping stone towards a different career path. Not 100% sure what I want to do yet but I'm just having fun making websites and it might even be cool to make something interactive to compliment my music. Currently following along with the Odin Project, so some java and ruby will come into play at some point. Once I get a solid foundation I'm hoping I might be able to do some pretty cool stuff.

Anyways, I keep putting off my weeklybeat until Sunday morning haha. It worked out the last few weeks but I'm less inspired today. I got a looming migraine that will probably ruin the rest of my weekend so I decided to go with something bare bones to keep stress low. Simple chord progression, tried adding some extensions to the chords to outline melodic movement and some background texture using an ebow on guitar. The second half comes from an unrelated idea that I pitch-shifted to be in A minor, then reversed the take, then slathered in reverb. I do the reverse-trick maybe a bit too often but I think it makes things sound like a string section even if there are no strings in the source audio, which I love the sound of. The whole vibe of the song is very dismal and I guess I was drawing from Le Gibet by Maurice Ravel for inspiration (pretty much the only classical song I often cite) so that's why I gave it a title involving the gallows.

I dig the moody vibe. The somber pianos in the first half sound really nice. Also dig the floating spacey feel in the second half, nice contrast of two related but different moods.

When this ended I felt like I was opening my eyes after meditating. It sounds so good. Great vibe. Glad to hear the programming is coming along, too.

Definitely has an air of total desolation to it. This is a really pretty piece.

A very good track to calm down and take some deep breaths. I did enjoy the whole piece with all sections that fit nicely together. Wish you find a good decision for your career path. Your music is wonderful.

This track has a lot of space. It feels huge, reverberating into infinity.

It's very chill and relaxing, you can put one extra element to it to give it a sort of cyber meditative vibe.

I hope your head feels better! WB is a challenge during migraine periods.  I've been paying attention to the barometric pressure changes - it seems like that's been a trigger lately... I have a low grade headache tonight & this piece is very gentle but interesting and engaging! The change up round 2:28 was cool.

I feel like these ambient tracks are the ones i like best, but I'm shit at making them, nice work

love the reverses.  pleasantly reminded me of Metallica's Orion, in a metal context.

great piece.

well said

I, too, am partial to the reverse reverb trick but haven't used it in ages! Very pretty sounds in here, and I really like the optimistic sound of the second half (particularly the ending).
