Muggy

By Tom Foolery on February 22, 2026 3:47 am

Yet again, I did not leave enough time for my weeklybeats so I did not have the time to finesse this as much as I'd like. BUT I am incredibly pleased with the results. I set out to write a slowcore influenced track, and ended up here. Not quite what I had in mind, but a very pleasant surprise.

As I use this as somewhat of a diary, some week recap highlights:
- Went on some wonderful social runs with friends
- Saw Ethel Cain perform a haunting set, such powerful range between hushed songs and noise interludes
- Watched my friend's band play a rowdy set!
- Some very cute moments with my cats
- Went to a free concert in the park near my house put on by my local council!
- May have solved a problem at work that had been bugging me for MONTHS which was a HUGE relief. Does it make sense? not entirely. Is it solved though? Yes!

as I watch her
run for her train
she's not looking back

I feel her fingers
in my veins
reaching for a heart attack

leave me
on this
platform as you go
leave me
standing
broken and alone

pen on paper
I know
these words will be the last
I am hoping
she'll miss that train
but she is running fast

After last weeks I had to come to your profile first this week and I was not disappointing!

What a fun sounding week. I really love the guitar in this so much. The vocals are great but I just love how long those reverb tails are.

A very successful beat in my humble opinion smile

What a magical atmosphere. You've absolutely earned being pleased with this one, it's so beautiful! big_smile

So great...these lyrics omg! Heartbreaking in the best way. Love all the sounds you have going on. Lush and lovely!

What a wonderful track. I am in love with your vocals on this!

what a lovely wall of sound created with the drum intro.  Oof your voice sounds awesome in this atmosphere.  The guitars and your voice in this are such a nice combo.  Also yay cats and Ethel Cain who i just got into smile. Faved!

The guitar hits! This is so good, love this

Wow, this sounds gorgeous.  Solid arrangement, great lyrics, great performance―great mix!  Makes me wonder what would be different if you did have time to finesse this as much as you'd have liked.

holy carps, Tom. straight-up gem here. this is going on my Best of Tom Foolery Mix Tape.

the VOCALS. my gosh. excellent hook on the guitar too. so much soul, I also doubt you could have done better with 1000x more takes.

holy crap the lyrics too. very touching. beautiful. instant fav

DUDE I was not expecting this! Love this so much - instant favorite.

sad & heart

Thank you! Also fantastic to hear you're getting into Ethel Cain! Her stuff is fantastic. If you ever get the chance to see her play, she is mesmerising and I can't recommend it enough.

Thank you ineff! Hearing the positive feedback on all those aspects is so nice! Who knows, if I had more time maybe it never would have got finished... such is the magic of weeklybeats. Listening back after some time away from it I'm very happy with the mix!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! This has reminded me as a teen I always joked that I would call my first album "Greatest Hits"...

Me too, definitely something I've overlooked and will have to come back to more often I think. Thank you for listening!!

And RIGHT?! During Ptolemaea I was absolutely lost for words. Wish I could have gone back to see it again.

still coming back to this track every now and then btw. real tear jerker, mends my broken heart...

The music reminds me of Cocteau Twins, nice! Voice is sounding good in this one as well, particularly your delivery/tone in the first verse.

absolutely beautiful stuff

That is far too kind! It means a lot to know you're returning to listen to it! Thank you!

Huge comparison! Thank you!! Will be desperately trying to replicate that vocal tone for the rest of the year I suspect.
