Meredith Flu

This week I went on holiday back to where I grew up. I lay sick in bed in an isolated town, far away from the world. Back home it was unbearably hot. Fires blazed out of control. I felt relaxed despite my illness and I dreaded heading back to reality. I think my holiday raised more questions than it answered, and I find myself still lacking the direction I felt I needed at the New Year. Patience is a virtue.

This one was a guitar idea that I came up with a little while ago while I was also sick. It wasn't until tonight when letting my sister play around with a microphone and a ridiculous delay that I found what it was missing. She spent the evening reminding me of all the good things here back at home. Perhaps it's fitting that she completes this piece.

beautiful guitar and sonic layers!

Super cozy and calm. I really relate to the feeling, too. Can be tough facing the world after being somewhere safe and comforting.

But you encapsulated the moment very well. It's a good souvenir that might just give you some of that energy when you need it.

lovely track

Damn, lots of great tracks this week! Fantastic melodic layering. Fav heart

This has a wonderful sort of cozy vibe to it. I love love the background ambient sounds!

I love the atmosphere! I think the quality of the mix also contributes to that a lot.

If you're home, come visit me in Syddos one weekend lad. We have a red hot new bike trail.

Also, can confirm lad, sisters are tops. I'd be dead 5x over without mine around.

well this is a very fine direction, it's very lovely

I am in the same boat and mindset about direction and the "Patience is a virtue", menatality.

The guitars really feel like they are in your ears. Are you using a compressor?  Nice playing, I quite like progression of the song.

Adding this to favorites, love the chill gental vibes

Wow! This is so so so good. The layers are beautiful and washy and make me feel like a warm room on a cold day.

really beautiful heart
the acoustic sounds so good and works really well over the spacey delayed sounds.

heart thank you all! I'm glad you're all enjoying it! I was aiming to capture that feeling of having my ear as close to the acoustic as it can get when I'm playing it. I love getting lost in the guitar and hearing all sorts of possible sounds over the top of it in my mind.

How could you tell?! It's like you've just been transported to where it was written!! Thank you!

Dude, I cannot relate more. They're blessings. Glad to hear from you and I reckon a Sydney trip is surely on the cards this year.

The acoustic sound is based on the following:
- a single close mic'd (maybe 2-3 inches depending on my posture) SM57 over the 12th fret straight into the soundcard
- double-tracked and hard-panned (my inconsistent playing lends this a lot of stereo movement, rather than a cleaner doubling effect, which I enjoy)
- Each track (left/right) has a compressor -> limiter, that's then grouped to a stereo bus with another compressor -> limiter. Then the master bus has a compressor -> limiter. Too much of a good thing? I had half-blocked ears from a cold when I mixed this and I definitely compressed this much more than I meant to. Listening back this week it is a choice I would probably back off on, but then again, maybe not.

hope u are feeling better

beautiful guitar playing. feels like the sun is shining down on a cold place.  the pads are an extra nice touch that give it that dreamlike feel.  well done!

This is so beautiful. Your guitar sounds so good, warm and welcoming balanced with brightness. I love the shimmering tones in the background, is that your sister?

it burns there while we freeze here... the climate is getting very intense

this track feels like a moment/soundspace of safe harbor

hope you are feeling better

Thank you both for your kind comments on the guitar! It's so lovely to hear you enjoying something that I have otherwise kept to myself. The shimmering pads are indeed my sister! She really added the floating feeling this piece needed.

I really like this interpretation. The guitar is always a harbour for me. Thank you for your words!
Not to talk too much about the weather, but we are looking at getting record highs here on Tuesday. It is becoming undeniably extreme. I hope you're staying warm and looking after each other on your side of the Earth.

The mood here is just perfect! Brings me right back to biking on grey weather days growing up and listening to any tunes I could find with this kind of vibe. Fantastic stuff.

with my currently sick ears, this sounds WONDERFUL. maybe the over compressed thing sounds best to sick ears haha. great synth warble whatever that was too, supports the nice guitar playing
