606 on the beach

By theskyis256k on January 11, 2026 8:58 pm

Week 2 came so fast sheesh!
This track is also all M8 internal synths and samples fully mixed internally as well.
Most drum samples are 606 samples except for the kick and clap.
originally i wanted it to be entirely 606 samples but felt like the kick was lacking and the clap is godawful. I think this is much better now. I don't know how those acid people do it!

Week 2 was harder to get done but we pulled through.
This is gonna be hard to sustain but i'm feeling very motivated and musically energized so time to ride that energy as long as i can.

Hope you enjoy, see you next week!

Amazing pacing on this, takes its time but nothing outstays its welcome. Love that lead sound!

Everybody 606 on the beach.
- Devieus

I could use the beach right about now, but this is the next best thing. Love the vibe.

love that tasteful restrained lofi lead

this is a super groove. those short pluck sounds are just right. i like those brief melodic lines. very tasteful.

Wherever this song is, I wanna be there for a while
Lovely atmosphere with the synths especially the flutey chords, sounding very lush in a way I find hard to achieve on M8, great work on the sound design!

feel like im in a paul-stretched windows 2000 startup world right now

I love it! Sounds soo smooth & floaty!

immaculate vibes

woahhh i love this. take me to that beach!

Lovely vibe! W

super chill track, does feel very late spring-summer-vibey, Im about to get another beer, you guys want some?
Five beers, one cola, and a white wine please!
Thanks!
Hey Frank! long time no see!
Yea man, doing well, you?
Great! tell your wifey I said hi! I need to bring these to the group else I'll drink em all myself and im the one driving!
Later!
*headbobs*

Great track. Tiny nitpick: Do watch out with the ringing of the hats/hat-reverbs, especially on club/festival speakers those would cut hard.

Oh good call on the kick - that sounds great! Can't remember what the 606 clap sounds like with yours going...maybe that's just proof of concept? I love the simple, chill feeling. Absolute beach vibes.

Thank you so much that means a lot!
I confess though, that chord was a sample and not created on M8 but now im very eager to try and sound design airy/fluty chords like that on M8 directly. gonna need to deep dive on it!
appreciate the kind words so glad you liked my track 🙂

*warning, excuses incoming*
these old man ears can no longer detect harsh high frequency tones
my tracks are relegated to bedroom listening
i didn't have enough time
i did the whole mixdown on M8 on a pair of koss headphones that look like walkman headphones from the 90s

big_smile

glad you liked the vibes though and i very much appreciate the nitpick!

i might have been harsh on the 606 clap but it was very unfitting in this mix. so i opted for the classic 808 clap instead. the kick however was from a vengence pack that i've had for maybe 15 years now that has served me well for many years.
im very glad you liked it thank you 🙂 means a lot

Very nice relaxing vibe, love the very reverb-y high notes, they remind me of the 2000s in a fun way

Smooooooooooth sailing. Keep on keeping on! M8 is a beast. Need to get back to tracking at some point, it’s so easy to build grooves!

Best thing in this track was the ”stillness” and lack of hurry.

Ps. What kind of swing settings dif you have there on groove table?

love that chill-housey vibe!

Thank you so much that's very much the vibe i was hoping people would get. im glad it reminded you of that era.

Thank you! yeah M8 is awesome, when it clicks right.
I think this song's groove was using the latest firmware on 192 PPQ and 3F/21

I love this new resolution because you can have much nicer control.

+1 on this, short melodic lines are perfect. little bites of sweet fruit in a smooth drink.

Extra ordinarily groovy! That bass!

just when i thought it cant get any better, the lead starts doing the little pitchbends (first around 3:08). Dang.... what a smooth track.
See you later guys, i am off to the beach! 8)

Those verb-drenched melodic instruments are wonderful heart

Fiancé: "It's like a chill digital beachy summer vibes in a Steven Universe video game" (starts dancing)

instant groove

ooh and these drums 😍

You know the way to my heart, pitched lowtom/kick in syncopation. Nice work!

thank you very much! i was quite proud of those little pitch plays. at first it didn't have it but at some point while listening to the lead line i started feeling like it was feeling more like a guitar is playing it instead of a synth. so i thought about how a guitar would play certain notes and the interplay between them and added some bends and slides to accentuate that feeling. lil inside baseball for ya wink

so glad you liked it!

yeaaaa i love it too. toms as a bass line to counter balance the kick is such a nice move.
happy you enjoyed that 🙂

Sounds like a house classic already, really great restraint in the arrangement too. Nice job!

The sustained airy chords definitely take me to the beach. Love the space you gave to the rhythm and percussion, it builds quite nonchalantly and delivers lots of ear candy along the way. Overall I felt it was a lovely, soft track with a keen sense of groove.

I went to the beach once in my backyard on the sand circle leftover from where our childhood above ground pool use to sit. The mushrooms opened the portal but the music guided us to the beach, would have loved to have this one accompany us!

Thanks for the inside, its always interesting to know about the thought process! smile
one day later these bends still hit so good. without those bends, it would still be a fcking great track, but for me personally they take the song on another level.  smile so thanks again for tickling my brain. big_smile

i could hang out on this beach all day heart

Groooovy. Instant vibes. The modulation and accents on your lead are so good and add such organic vocal like texture to it. Awesome work.

606, as mentioned in the discord... Underrated. Fits in and sounds good in mixes almost everywhere smile

Nice smooth groove in this one. Very spacious. It reminds me of riding my bike at night as the sun is setting.

man I never liked the 606 but wow... those samples! Maybe I oughta revisit that D16 plugin I bought

super good job on the mix

aw man very nice understated beat. enjoyed it in the live listening sesh. really nice sparse melodic lines, keep waiting for them to come. great sound

Sunblock check, cooler check, tide? lol check, perfect song to listen to as the sun sets you nailed it! TSS tss TSS… still echoing in my head. I need this for my summer 2026 playlist!!!

It seems like I'm the TR-707 guy here on Weekly Beats. Glad to see a TR-606 connoisseur, too! Both are underrated, but can be deadly effective if used well. And you demonstrate the power of the 606 really well here. The tune doesn't sound like the beach to me. It sounds like cruising down California 1 at sunset with the top down. Serene and soothing, but with a sense of forward motion. Quietly confident. Calmly joyful.

No notes, five stars.

This is a great track. I’m super impressed that you did all the mastering on the M8 as well. Everything sounds beautifully put together. Fantastic work!

Getting late afternoon beach vibes from the track, that title definitely fits! The (enhanced) 606 sounds really good here, not always easy to find the right space for it.

fav'd and sav'd for my next psychedelic decompression dee jay set 🥥
