Interlaced

The process behind this one was quite confused. i recorded a lot of stuff that didn't end up using. a bit rough around the edges but i think it's interesting enough to put out into the world.

The initial idea was to have short looping ukulele lines looping, but played live, kind of interlaced, where they each make a part of the whole for a short time, but then it turned into most of the things all at once. I was playing with the metronome but i decided to just loop the first line in the daw to get a steady pulse, i meant to rerecord that line so i wasn't "cheating" but i never did that. the rest i did longer recordings, but some i ended up copy pasting anyways, some of which definetly weren't on time. There's something to this kind of wonky rythm that i like, but it's also a hard balance to "get right", not that i was going for it to begin with. I wanted it to apear from some kind of haze i tried different things but ended up using the same material with delays with high feedback, i think that was interesting sound that i ended up leaving throughout the track. i also think the contrast between the mechanical beats of the delay and the human elements interesting. towards the end I recycled some material stretched 150% and 200% which yielded even more rythmic confusion, but i think in the end i like it, maybe. Anyways could be interesting to know how other people perceive this "wonky rythm" (im sure there's a better word for it.) if someone has opinions or feedback how to make it work (other than just; play in time), I'm all ears.

this is so beautiful omggg

It reminds me a bit of some minimalist composers like Philip Glass or Terry Riley.  And the textures are pleasant and a little mesmerizing.  I'm a firm believer that there aren't really any rules to creating music and sometimes it's good to color outside the lines.  If anything it's a little like listening to windchimes, in that they can be chaotic but still beautiful.

This is like a blanket I can just roll up inside of like a warm cuddly ball of coziness.
Beautiful, super mellow, lovely textures. Awesome work heart

Really pretty and meditative soundscape. I like how the three(ish?) different textures just sort of blends into each other seamslessly.

while i can def understand that it maybe didn't come together how you were wanting it to...
damn, i wish you could hear it through my ears. cuz that sounded incredible to me.
did not feel disjointed at all. lovely natural flow from start to finish.
thank you

so cool! love the ebb and flow of the parts coming in and out

Absolutely beautiful. This breaks my brain in a good way
What a pleasant listen

at the start it's like 2 against 3 against 4 polyrhythm thing?? I think. and it's a really nice effect
and the clean uku coming in from the haze approx 1:25 is lovely! sounds perfectly on time to my ears hehe
some really nice little snippets that seem to happen accidentally, like around 2:20ish
yes! hope u come back to it later on when u forget it and u will see it's dope

the imperfections in the process you describe are what make the track more memorable and interesting, really nice job

Honestly I think the "wonkiness" only adds to the charm. It's off enough to be interesting but close enough to be soothing.

Thank you for listening and for the feedback! I think when i was making it i felt it started to sound like a piece from steve reich maybe “electric counterpoint”. I kind of tried to move a bit away from to not just be a worse version of that. But obviously it still in there haha.

Thank you for listening! Maybe it came out a bit judgemental of the piece, i was just unsure if it was working after listening to the same things so many times. But definitely wish i could do that as well, would solve a lot of problems. Anyways, happy that you liked it!

Hey! Thanks for listening. I think you might be right about the timing in the beginning, i didn’t really think about the rythm of the delays, but maybe i should have been. Also towards the end i had stretched material to 150% and 200% along with the original for a few seconds which would give that 2:3:4 relationship, which is interesting somehow…
Maybe you right i just need to give it some time before i listen to it again.
