Become a Pokemon (Live Dub)

By miraclemiles on January 11, 2026 11:49 pm

Hey, we're back for week two, congrats! It's taking some adjustment to get back in the habit of making a weekly song. Hearing everyone's tracks last week and reading comments was a big inspiration.

This week's track is a live remix of the Cyber Forest song Become a Pokemon. One of my faves we did. It's a little hard to believe I did the first version of that here on WB back in 2020!

So I made this live dub for two reasons:
1. I want to practice doing live performances of songs (more on that story below)
2. To celebrate the release of the Cyber Forest album Space Crimes! It's out now on Bandcamp and streaming in the other places too. We had these jams over the past 5(!) years, I produced many of them as Weekly Beats songs, and last week we finally released the album, huzzah!

Love the distorted percussion. Absolute banger.

Congrats on the album!  The live aspect adds a whole other dimension/challenge but it still sounds recognizably like you for sure.  Lots of cool sounds as always and I always like what you do with the vocals.  Both the way you manipulate and mangle them and the weird little bits of interesting words we hear.

Wow the distorted elements are WORKING.

Oh yessss the distorted drums NIN style. Love to learn more about your live performance setup

congrats on the rad song, the album, and performing live!!!
it's all comin' up, miles!  heart

love the sound of those heavy drums.  Gave me some Reznor vibes with the crunchiness of the snare.  Congrats on the album and performing! \m/

this one sounds so fun. great energy that doesn't sound super serious but still goes hard in how you warped and distorted everything here smile

cool jam, I like the concept! congrats on the album! big up on performing live, it's a lot of fun! and thx for the reflections, good to remember to have a goal with stuff, makes it nicer to get up in the morning haha

Love this, it has such an industrial groove to it but that live, raw feel as well, its also highly entertaining and very disturbing lol. The beat carries it so well and there are some careful decisions here made with the glitch and disruption that preserve and return to that beat at some really great moments. This was awesome! Gonna check out the album!

yes sir, return of the Pokemon, that original from 2020 has never left my consciousness, I can't tell you how many times my answer to any number of questions is "I said fuck it, become a Pokemon!"  This dub is tasty, deep bass, crunchy drums and grinding screeches.  Love the workflow, I have messed around a bit on the push 3 in a similar sense, will probably try and finish some weekly beats tracks this year like that to give it a more loose free flowing feel.

First off: Congrats on the album release!

I love the distortion here, I would totally dig hearing something like this live

Love the overdriven nature of this, especially against the goofier elements of it. Hits hard and also a lot of fun!

I'll be the third one to compliment you on the crunchy snare. The drums and glitches are definitely my highlight here. Funnily the original got also comments about how good the snare was, but it sounded different then big_smile

In fact it's cool how you made that original jam more structured here, I enjoyed that.

The vibe of this track is huge! I love the huge glitchy snare paired with this kick. And of course strange vocal layers! What's not to like?
