Hænger

This week a song came to me and i decided to work with it. There’s something very weird about writing lyrics. All aspects of the creative process are kind of mysterious, but things like composition seem more tangible to me. Lyrics seem to just appear out of the blue, which can be frustrating when you want them to happen… The last few years I haven’t written many songs but i think weekly beats is really putting me in a spot to write more, probably something to do with the deadline. Anyways this one came flowing out quite easily. It’s quite dark and heavy. I tried to match the mood in the music, it came out slightly more “hopeful” than originally intended, probably for the better.
I recorded the song “live” with my ukulele as accompaniment, i did a few takes and stuck with one that wasn’t perfect, especially the second verse was a bit off, but I decided to go with it. The plan was to re-record everything on top of it and eventually delete but i ended up just using that take. I recorded more ukulele tracks on top of it and I added melodica and synth drony stuff and two tracks of recorder which I ended up slowing to half speed and somehow it lined up quite nicely with the song. Had some trouble mixing it and i ran out of time so ended up sounding a bit weird but i think that’s okay…

Lyrics:

som hænger her med os min ven
som hænger her med os min ven

Translation:
the rope is so tight
and the plank underneath my feet is rotten
the sky is so grey
even though there isn’t a cloud in sight
so now we’re hanging here my friend
now we’re hanging here my friend

people looking up
have they seen the endless emptiness in our eyes
what’s hiding behind their grin
is there something in their mind that’s hanging
hanging here with us my friend
hanging here with us my friend

Thank you for listening, happy you enjoyed it!
I am fine really, I’m not sure exactly where it came from but I don’t think it has to do a lot with me… but I appreciate the concern.

Thank you for listening! Actually i had a feeling when i was writing the song that there was something very close to it but couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I know the song but never really looked all that closely at the lyrics  or the history for that matter. The reality of the things connected to it makes it all the more tragic. I can’t understand how people can have that kind of power over others. Thank you pointing it out. And for doing all the BBCode stuff i find it to be a lot of work just inserting a picture haha…

Thank you! Glad you liked it! It’s amazing the amount of sounds you can get out of a few instruments once you start slowing things down/ speeding things up. I think i have barely scratched the surface.

Thank you! I really enjoy making them as well, hoping that  they will be more frequent, but it’s hard to force them to come…
