Hiding

By Sodabelly on January 18, 2026 7:37 pm

Just got back from a family visit in Ontario and at some point we had a discussion about the old "drop-in visit". As much as everyone talks about missing the old days of unannounced visits, we basically concluded that it was a pain in the ass to end up hosting and cooking and giving up your day for your second cousins or whoever because they happened to be in town. Also, payphones existed so it's not like it was impossible to call ahead. The point of this preamble basically means I was inspired by this conversation to write some lyrics and got most of it done on the trip back home. I haven't sang much in the last year so vocals are serviceable but I'm pretty happy that I got to spend some quality time on this track. Enjoy!

Lyrics:
Picture of the Fox running down King
Built up storeys and motors sing
The garage door is peeling again

Engine's getting near, I've got a strange feeling
I've got a strange fear you're dropping in
Wish I could say it's okay again

But I'm hiding today, I'm hiding today
It's always people coming, people going
People going
Away

I can see it coming, you're rolling downstream
Picking up pieces of everything
A love so big, I don't know what it means

Shut it all out, I don't even dream
Couldn't even fathom anything
Anything and everything again

But I'm hiding today, I'm hiding today
It's always people coming, people going
People going
Away

*Love* the vibe of this song! Awesome stuff Sodabelly! big_smile

The song has an appealing 90's indie rock sort of feel to it.  I can relate to the lyrics, too.  Sometimes I miss the days of friends just stopping by unannounced, but overall I value my me time and I definitely am not a fan of the drop-in these days.

Very nice!

Your singing is spot on and lyrics relatable. smile

Really like the arrangement on this track.

Drum sounds and guitar tones are stellar. Great song. smile

Super nice Indierocksong. Everything fits. Well done

Cool indie rock. Very "Dinosaur Jr-ish" at moments (and I say this as a compliment). It's quite a slow jam with great drums... In fact, do you mind if I sample your break?

Only inconvenient is that I was left expecting more rock after your last verse at 2:38. It begs for some more guitar!

I can hardly play base but I was pretending I had one hanging really low like Kim Gordon, the three times I've listened straight so far smile

Love this. It ends on a note that makes me want to immediately listen again. Let's go

catchy, well mixed, and fun to listen to!

this song is full of great, indie character. Sounds like a bunch of friends playing live in the living room.

Wow a Dino Jr comparison, thanks! I also wish I had a little more time to throw a J Mascis-style guitar thrashing in there...next time! And yes, sample away!

Thanks for listening everybody!

Absolutely stunning performance. If I ran a radio station, I'd play this.

Wow... I mean I love the song, but being in Ontario it was the "Fox running down King" that got me right away lol. Such a specific mood, and then the drop in vibe... can relate lol. Awesome song!

I love your voice! This is great song-writing, too, excellent work!! heart

Very 90s indy vibe and super relatable.. always family popping in. Love it.

hell yeah digging the whole groove from the sweet drums to the guitar/piano and your vocals.  Super catchy sing along feels.  Well done!

Long live the drop-in visit! You're always welcome to drop in anytime for pretzels and wine smile
