The Aspen Cliffs

This week’s submission is basically a phone recording haha. I drove out to the mountains near me on Saturday to this overlook. It’s a really nice spot with aspens and pine trees and you can see for miles into the valley. I brought my guitar and mandolin with me, but didn’t anticipate that it might be too cold right now to hang outside. Luckily the mandolin is so small that I can sit in the front passenger seat with it and look out the windows while playing. This recording is a section of a much longer improvisation that happened. I took the section that sounded the most cohesive. There are some good parts at the beginning and end of the original, but the whole thing was 13 minutes long! Hoping to find time to sit down and sort of arrange it. I liked this recording though because it will probably never sound this way again. Was hoping to do some editing on it EQ wise, but I’m away from the house today so the raw audio will have to do.

I look forward so much to your playing. Like the foot stomping or whatever that was coming in.

This comment made me realize my toe was already involuntarily tapping along.

This sounds great. Would never guess it's an iPhone car recording!

This was a great jam, and its almost meditative given that your locked in on an internal tempo and hammering away. I also love the story associated with it, marking this as an audio diary from that time and place. I'm glad you got into bluegrass because I think its a perfect match for your vibe.

damn this sounds fun and such a nice sound to your playing.  That must have been an inspiring view to be able to play at.  Totally wouldn't have guessed it was a phone recording either.  The car passing was a nice nod tho smile

Thank you! Yeah it was kind of nice to just get locked into the groove and see what happened.

It was indeed a really nice view. Hoping to go back there periodically. Thanks for listening!
