Out on the Lake

By Saguaro Gigante on January 18, 2026 9:20 pm

This week's submission is a solo guitar flat picking tune. I was messing around yesterday with some stuff after I finished practicing for the day and sort of stumbled onto this little melody. I was thinking about adding other instruments, but I really didn't have time for that. I have been thinking a lot lately about the difficulties I have performing (or really playing in front of anybody at all) so I decided to use this to work on that a little. I warmed up a bit before hitting record but then decided to just go and play the tune without going back to make any changes. I was curious to see what would happen for better or worse and to see if I could stay in the moment and roll with the unexpected. I added some reverb and echo to make it sound a little larger since I really like the sound of acoustics played in large rooms. Overall I like the way it turned out and I think it's a nice snapshot of where I am right now playing wise. Looking forward to making more growth and progress over the year!

Incredible playing dude! I was sitting here thinking it already sounded great but now that I know you did this in one take I'm stunned. I'm sure people would be stoked to hear a live performance of this. I also felt like I caught a hint of Kingdom Come influence in there somewhere, haha.

This is really lovely. Coincidentally, I also love the sound of you playing an acoustic in a large space.

This is fantastic. Love the sound and composition. Makes me want to pick up my acoustic again.

such a lovely sound and excellent playing! An uplifting pace throughout.  Sounds so good reverberating out!

Great playing! And a nice composition as well

This is heavenly!! I had high expectations as soon as I read the words “flat picked”, and this was something special indeed.

The effects processing is just the right amount to accentuate the ease and flow of your playing. Such a lovely acoustic guitar sound. Excellent craftsmanship!

Airy opening and fun melody when you get into it. You've built it well.

I love this! As a kid I used to play The Hobbit for PC and this reminds me of one of my favorite tracks that plays as you walk around the Shire. Great work!

nice to be in this room with you and your guitar heart

Really amazing performance, this doesn't need anything else.
Maybe a banjo.

Great use of reverb and resonance! It's neat how your drumming adds a drum-like element to this. Amazing playing!

People would love to hear you play it in my opinion!

Thanks! I'm not exactly sure were the kingdom come influence showed up but I have been playing a lot of that game recently and I am also a huge fan of the music that was written for that game so it's really cool that it made you think of that.

Thanks! I'm glad the reverb and delay worked out. I was a bit scared of going overboard with it.

Awesome! I never played that game but wish I had. I'm also a huge Tolkien fan.

One day I hope to learn the banjo! Maybe that will show up later this year or maybe by WB28.

Thanks! I'm glad that a percussive element came through. Even though I'm playing guitar with the pick I definitely try to keep the bounce in the picking and strum full chords every now and then to try to get a more full sound.
