Courage v9 (live drop)

The Courage to be one's Self.  v9(live drop)

I binged ate some junk food which caused me to relapse into heavy symptoms and crash and be bed bound for the week. I was completely befuddled with no energy or capacity to create so I dug out this gem from the vault.

It's one of my favourite things I've ever written. It started life quite humbly as a Weekly Beat back in 2020 (if your curious you can hear some of the formative ideas here https://weeklybeats.com/phliip/music/the-courage-to-be-yourself)

I've always really loved listening to it, and the more I tweak and refine it, the more things I find that I can still improve. I'd really like to be able to finish and release it.

The project file was on an old hard drive that had been water damaged. The file has massive load times and CPU strain but still functions... (I should really learn to back things up.)

As such... There are musical elements that are missing from different versions that I'd like to restore... You can hear some of the missing pieces in this version (https://weeklybeats.com/phliip/music/courage-81)

While editing the video I realised I could splice V8 & 9 together, so you get the best of both worlds. All the elements that were missing from the V9 bounce are there; and that's the best I can do for now until I can get more clarity on the project file.

I was "um" ing and "ah" ing about the 3rd drop... I kinda love it now and need it in my life, but I've also grown accustomed to it being a shorter more chill tune without an explosive finale.

Either way, I've listened to it so many times that I've written lyrics to it now and kinda wanna go test it out live in my local open mic circuit, and I think this live drop will be good for that.

What are your thoughts on the third drop? I suppose I could actually make a few different versions for the release it's a win/win.

Now I just have to settle on a name and branding.

Hope your week was awesome and you got some cool shit done!!

Mwah!

Reading the story above, it's really obvious this track has had a lot of love over the years, the details and structure make for an amazing listen.
The strings around 2:30 are my fav. But those arps too.. ooffff yeah, that's rad.

Now back up your files and play this for people!

It starts with that cheery Beach Boys piano and then that smooth arp comes in like a wave you ride until that absolute last triumphant minute! Definitely keep working and add lyrics!

Hope you're feeling better! Good job on not getting sidetracked. This is my first weeklybeats so I went back and listened to the previous versions - I feel like this takes the sped up energy of the second version and softens it. I really like it! But yeah, back up your stuff! lol. I think people would love to hear this live.

Favorite part is that juicy arp with the slow attack (the one at ~0:30)

Definitely keep the 3rd drop, the whole thing works so well together. I am trying to imagine it with singing, maybe the bit from 1.30 is a clue? The vocal snippets just before that, about 1.15, are my favourite bit, but there is so much going on, wonderful!

Damn!!! Great work, man!!!  Sounds very full! What a masterpiece, really.

I love this. It immediately brought such a bright energy. Like, "everything will be alright, see there's a rainbow" and then with the upbeat jumps shifting to a soft mellow blanket with angelic singing. Felt like a place to land and then it picked up again. I think the name fits. You can listen to this and just breathe in the courage/encouragement.

Really good track! The beginning immediately grabbed my attention. It has some really nice drops in it as well. The sound design is also great.

Your song is a great uplifting tune, I really like the brightness of it. I also liked the third drop. Hope you feel better.

Real good hats the I like how the snare echos the same stutters

Vocal chops also nice

Reminds me of odesza might have sounded cool leaning towards the a bit more with some more dense and out there percussion

Just read the description 3rd drop is my favorite hope you feel better!!!

it felt familiar somehow

I can see why this song is so important to you. Clearly a ton of love's gone into it!
Hopefully we'll get a chance to hear those lyrics you mentioned sometime soon!

I'm a big fan of that 3rd drop!

Hope you're feeling better!
