Hi! (hi hi hi) - featuring Orange Drink

By Paisleyfrog on January 3, 2026 5:07 pm

Welcome back Weekly Beats fam! Feels good.

This track came out of some discussion in the Discord, where sleepunit mentioned sampling Orange Drink's Welcome video he posted for 2024. There was no question, it had to be done.

The first big hint was hearing how the laugh was almost perfectly in time. I stretched it just a little and it fit my BPM perfectly. Wasn't sure what direction the track was going to take at first, until I started playing guitar against it...and it just sort of kept building. Trashy electro-garage-rock it is then. It all came together in a few hours. The last bit was the sort of ethereal bridge. It made me giggle.

I'm trying to not overthink my songs as much this year - all the guitar is pretty much first take and not going back to redo. For better or worse!

On the idea of Nicki Jupiter on the Discord, I'm going to try and make cover art for all my tracks this year. And maybe even add ID3 tags.

One week down. Let's gooooooooo!

This is sooo awesome... first favorite of the year.

This is great. Spectacular work with the vocal sampling, the laugh echos are perfect.
Excited to hear more of your stuff this year!

Welcome back and Hi Hi Hi!

This was so much fun. The guitar is so perfectly seated here and everything just comes together with some high energy joy...
But then the pads on the breakdown omg teh feelz.

Looking forward to a froggy year!

this is so rad!
happy new year paisleyfrog!

Hi!

Hi hi hi 👋

That's a great sample, and you pulled it all together well - cool track!

Great usage of the Orange Drink sample.  And now I've got hi hi hi hi stuck in my head.  smile

Wait I clicked play on the Paisleyfrog track why is Orange Drink OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH I GET IT. tongue

This is both hilarious and beautifully conceived at the same time. So many cool details too, like the pads in the breakdown. You and Orange Drink totally need to play this live together someday!

This is gonna be a fun year, I can already feel it. big_smile

omg, incredible!
what a great start to the new year  heart

Let’s go 2026, hi again!

Love the ethos of this one!

Hi!  it's a bop! loved the guitar and drum. Rocking out!

This is such a cool idea!
I actually read about your stuff in 2024 in Billy’s zine. The laugh sample is amazing

Hell of a way top kick off the year, that was a super fun track.  Loved it.  The songs charm and humor really play off each other so well.  Whispers of The Cure in your guitars was a really nice touch.  WB26 ahoy!!!

Haha, yeah that laugh works perfectly throughout the song. I eventually forgot it was even there because it blends in seamlessly. Great playing too!

This keeps making me laugh on every listen big_smile
What a start for the year

HI! (hi! hi! hi...)

HI

Hi!

I kinda expected you to use the sample as well, but we kinda did the same with the laugh as well XD
Totally different direction though! dang the guitar work is on point and you delivered a banger!

that hi sample forever lives inside of me now.

HIGH

Nice grungy rock, perfect fun vocal sampling heart

OK I got distracted and I thought this was the breakdown for OrangeDrink's ACTUAL Week 1 submission. The bar is real friggen high this year! I'm going to rock my 40s with some PRIMUS fused one man band nonsense.

Hello again!

Glad to see you here, this one was loads of fun!

I digged the sample as an instrument, and it almost hid the fact of a really cool instrumental underneath! Nice entry to 2026!

i love this so much

The bass sounds awesome right away.  Drew is sampled into a hypnotic and mesmerizing catchy groove.  I really enjoyed the wailing guitar line.  Made me wanna air guitar along.  Agree with ENC_ that sample hook is gonna bounce around my noggin forever smile

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!!! hahahahaha... I kind of heard this yesterday during weekly meets, but with everyone chatting, it was super hard to actually hear the music. Boy am I glad I came back to give it a proper listen: it's simultaneously hilarious, haunting and VERY good, hahahaha...
I particularly like your comment about trying not to overthink things this year. I mean, it's not like my music is particularly cerebral or intricate, but I want to allow myself some more flexibility and space to explore weird stuff.
Anyways, awesome to hear from you again, friend!!! Looking forward to a great 2026!

Hahaha, this was fun! Interesting how rhythmical laughter can be!

I'm so glad you used the sample! I spent so long chopping that video up, and I just couldn't get over the contrast of OD living in the land of future acid weirdness. like a universe with him it has to go solar punk and not cyberpunk.

guitar line absolutely rules throughout. love the breathers we get too. face melt off / face come back / face melt off. sweet tune.

Hi!

Nice hommage. I feel now that orange drink now maybe regret to have given his ok to sample his video. Lol.

Super fun track!

Hi! I just wanted to say that this is amazing cool

That wailing guitar fits so well, what is even going on here? I come in to see Paisleyfrog's first track of the year and find a mosh pit party. Which then takes a pensive emotional turn somehow and finally lands a rocking finale.

Instant classic, as SQF said. No notes, five stars.

Drew saying "Hi" never sounded so scary and threatening before.

Hi! This is amazing the tone in the guitar is majestic.

Hi! This sounds freakin awesome! Love the solo after the buildup

Oh hell yeah!!!
This is amazing. Love it.

Oh wow...I'm a little blown away by the response, thanks to everyone. I think I was able to respond to everyone, apologies if anyone was missed!

The week 1 energy has been AMAZING - this is going to be a great year. Love the Weekly Beats community!

Thanks! OD's laugh was so much fun to play with, the rhythm of it was great. Very much looking forward to your music as well!

I think that was the other part when making this song clicked - was just having a lot of fun playing along and rocking out to this mildly goofy song big_smile

I'm sorta proud of the pensive bridge - that's another part I didn't overthink. Hit record, played it and then left it alone. smile Looking forward to another year of Neon music!

Thanks! There's so much joy in OD's voice, and that laugh - when I played the first mix for my wife, she said, "It needs more laughing!!". She was right smile

Hah! Starting my first track of the year with someone else's voice is a choice, that's for sure big_smile

I'm glad the feels came across. It's a weird track in that it was making me laugh, but sorta rocked out as well. Super happy it all clicked together. And I agree, this year is already feeling like so much fun. The energy is electric.

As far as a performance - we're both in the same state. I'm down if OD is smile

You're pretty well spot on with the guitar tone. I've built my guitar sounds primarily off of two patches in Logic...and one of them is called "Eighties Goth" big_smile big_smile

So happy you're back for '26 - let's go!

The rhythm of his laugh, and even the pitch. So much fun to work with! Thanks!

I'm sort of glad I wrote the song quickly - the sample is firmly in my head as well, can't imagine if I had spent a week listening to HI HI HI HI smile Thanks, glad you liked it!

Week 1 submissions have been GREAT! So much great music. Thanks, glad you liked it!

Glad to see you back as well! His sample was so much fun as percussion. And thanks for the kind words on the instrumental - it was so much fun to put together. I need to do more trashy rock this year methinks.

Thank you so much - so happy you called out the bass, this might be my favorite bass sound I've done. Sits forward in the mix, and has some of that rock bass growl I really never use smile

Definitely, looking forward to not overthinking and experimenting - letting things sit if they feel fun, maybe going into weird territory. And this one definitely felt weird, I don't think I've combined "funny" and "rocks" before.

Awesome seeing you back again as well! Here's to experimentation and fun in '26 smile

So happy you had that idea in the Discord! It felt like the perfect week 1 smile

Thanks for the kind words on the guitar. '24 gave me a lot of confidence in my playing that I've never really had before - shredders and technical players have always been held up as the gold standard guitar heroes, which are definitely not me! Very happy that the style I'm finding works - thank you!!

djippy wrote:

Hee hee smile He actually messaged me after music drop on Sunday to tell me just how hard he was laughing. Best compliment ever heart heart

Thank you so much, that is such high praise. Funny thing is, even while I was recording it I wasn't exactly sure what was going on. The reaction to this rtack (and the music I've been making over the past month) reinforces to me the decision to get out of my own head, follow the creativity, and see where things go. Even if they don't make sense. smile Looking forward to see where it leads everyone this year!!

RajaTheResidentAlien wrote:

Right?! I'm sorta glad I didn't follow my first instinct, which was to take it in a dark industrial direction. Now THAT would have been scary smile Glad to see you again Raja!

Enjoying the panning of the effected laugh in particular - takes it from central to a sort of weird spread curtain. Compliments the rock quite well.

Incredible I cant stop smiling when I hear this.

I need to film a reaction video because you need to see my tears of laughter - and then I start laughing IN TIME to the sample and then I lose my mind all over again!

smile smile smile

it's an honor.

What a great start of WB! The song flew by really quickly, in a good way. Super enjoyable
