Modern World

This week I re-created an earlier track from week 21 called "My American Carnage" which was recorded with guitars and bass.  This version is all keyboard with vocals added. Like last week, I am using my 40-year old Moog Liberation has a replacement for all the guitar parts. Software synths are used for bass and pads. It was very challenging trying to capture the energy of the former guitar version and it does fall short. The mix is very rough so I'll continue to work on it.  Overall a good evolution but lacking some punch. An interesting project and fun challenge.

This track is really epic! I think you posted a story in Instagram of that Moog liberation. The sound is epic but this looks like a BEAST to carry on the shoulder like that. All this is synth? Wow some of it really sounds like guitar, especially the solo part. Very cool sound!
I think it still has a lot of energy though more guitars are always welcome! MORE IS MORE (as Yngwie Malmsteem would say).

Loved that track!

Dude, this is so cool.  You nailed the synth/guitar parts.  This sounds like something Magic Sword would make!  The mix isn't bad at all, its so aggressive and in-your-face.  I'd just like to be able to hear the vocals a little more though.  The solo at the end it wild too!!!

Also, holy shit, just looked up the Liberation.  That thing looks awesome!  Looks like those are super rare and valuable now too, so cool that you have a working one.

the song is really epic and should not be forgotten. maybe getting more punch effect, when you blow the drums up a litlle bit? In the 90ies I saw one of these Moog synthezisers in a music store in my town, but did not buy it. Instead I went for a Korg MS-20.

The bass itself have lots of "aggression" in it. This is a different vibe than the first release, both are nice in my opinion.

It's fun to hear an alternate take and really cool that it's pretty much all synths.  Some of them I could definitely be convinced are actually guitars.  Especially that solo!  The track does have a bit of a raw lo-fi feel but it sounds cool and the energy shines through.

A powerful song with powerful reverb

I think the rough mix kinda works!  Gives it some extra grit.  If your vocals were up 2 octaves, you'd be in Judas Priest territory.

Kickin'.

Maybe it's cuz I recently just was listening to Gary Numan but this took me back to that era with the synths playing the guitar parts.  Love the sound of the vocals thru the mix as well.  The synth bass ties it all together yais!

epic

I'd hold the lighter up to this before starting to burn the shit down if you know what I mean, and I think you know what I mean.

maybe it's just because i went to comic-con last week, but i got anime action opening scene vibes

Thanks! Yes, it's very heavy.  14 or 15 pounds of real wood, made in Buffalo, NY with all analog circuits and wires.  Give me a back ache.

I've had this keyboard for over 30-years.  It's a beast for sure.  Finally got it refurbished to the extent that parts could be found.  Happy to have it back and to play it again with lots of distortion like I did when I was a kid smile

Korg MS-20 is a nice choice! Too me,the Moog Liberation sounds hideous unless run through distortion.

Yeah, this version is also actually slower.  I think I took it down from 240 bpm to 200 or 220.  Then the bass could be sped up sounding more aggressive... my theory anyway!

The pitchbend strip and some weird aftertouch filters on the Liberation allow for some performance techniques you can't really get on other synthesizers.  At least in my experience.

It's summertime so good for swimming in reverb.

Ahh... love Gary Numan! Got to see him perform a few times in his more recent tours. Never got to see him back in the day.

Sweeet! You got to go to San Diego? Do you live out there on the west coast? My son had me watching all the new trailers that dropped!

Epic! Synch and vox additions kill it. Yeah, burn the shit down! let's go!
