Astro Kart 64

By NickLong on February 13, 2026 10:48 pm

A track made with Bitwig for Weekly Beats.

I wanted to do something full on cheesy four on the floor.
The inspiration for this track was Mario Kart music specifically from the Wii era (hence the ambient piano).

Artwork designed by my daughter.

Composition thing for this week is moving 13th chords around chromatically for jazz fusion craziness and a weird modulation from C major to E major in the bridge section.

mario kart?  sold
jazz fusion craziness?  shut up and take my money!

this is right on point!

hell yeah, this is a bop. spot on to the prompt

Damn well done!  Love the syncopation between the bass and piano.  When that synth arp comes in it feels like my kart just crossed a row of speed pads before a big jump!

I feel like I’m playing Mario kart in a basement jazz club with a cocktail

Do you like bitwig?

Yes!

That's exactly it. I imagine it's some normal course and then it has a jump pad where you shoot into space or something like that when the arp comes in.

Yes, I absolutely love it.

It's not that different to Ableton I suppose and I don't use all of the fancy modular features, but it's really fast, rock solid stable, looks good and since version 6 it has some excellent automation and piano roll tricks built in.

The modulation system is absolutely superb. When I use things like Logic I feel like I have gloves on now!

That being said all the big name DAWs are pretty good or they would go out of business.

nailed it!

Nice and uplifting!

Great sound going on here, those 13ths give it some power.

(Props to your daughter for the design)

That piano is so playful - love all the melodic runs you've put together in this. The arpeggio builds->chord stabs are laid back and easygoing smile

So great! Love this.

PSA: do not listen to this while driving. Almost crashed when the synth arp hit trying to get blue sparks.

The intro with the piano and percussion goes insane. Nice job!

Bumping main title theme.

Wow, this is great.  Excellent production and development.  Love the cascading lead at ~1:30.
