Hey, Jonathan

Time's tight! Let's see:

  • used the Deluge's onboard mic for the vocals and won't likely do that again, for reasons that will be obvious when you listen. LOL... good for the full-tilt stuff but not for the close-up. Mouth noises, room noises, etc. etc.

  • wanted to try a non-4/4 meter on the Deluge. No problem, just a little math. Triplets View ftw.

  • wanted to explore Venezuelan styles since the US "runs" Venezuela now. Long story short, I discovered Joropo - but the only thing this really has in common is the strumming pattern I did on my uke - but much, much slower than Joropo because holy hell Joropo's fast! (and beautiful - check some out!)

  • wanted to say something, anything, about the b.s. that's gone on in the States lately, and I can't claim that this is clever or even astute or even helpful. Just thoughts I put together into rhymes to get some of my anger out of my system.

Boy, am I spoiled by tuning and various Izotope products... But WB continues to be such a great learning experience using the Deluge for everything but some final quick mastering (level boost, some harshness control).

Lyrics

Hey Jonathan, why did you drive away?
I was hoping to get your perspective
Saw what you did and knew you couldn’t stay
Went and lost your head, oh, the invective

Hey Jonathan, were you truly afraid
With your gun and your vest and your boots in the town you invaded?
In my own life, that’s when I’ve been worst behaved
When I’ve been scared… or just humiliated

Hey Jonathan, who knew it paid so well
To turn on and turn in your neighbors
But then again, I bet that time will tell
And you’ll get the wage you’ve earned for your labors.

That sounds great I wouldn’t have guessed on board deluge mic. I
Damn maybe i need to get a deluge again lol great song

Duuude - the mouth noises, the background noise - I actually automated the level on the vocal between phrases, it was so noisy. But I was trying to be all guerrilla like LeBernd (see his Week 2 track "Kitchen") and just do the vocal on the couch! lol...

As for the Deluge, I just can't say enough good stuff about the original designer/builder and team, and then the phenomenal open-source developer community. They have added so much great stuff! DO IT! I'm sure you can find a used one. Pretty active reddit community, often someone selling one.

This one hits hard. Great lyrics and vocal performance, and the message paired with the musical style is chef's kiss. Looks like I'll have to revisit the Deluge's mic...

Well, you folks are blowing my mind.

Isn't it funny how we hear the nits and the issues in our own stuff?

Nice one

damn. this is GREAT. everything. lyrics, vocals, music, feeling.
when yr vocal jumps up an octave, so effective
yeah, i don't know anything about deluge or deluge mic but that feels like the perfect vocal sound for this song
thanks for making this heart

Thanks so much for listening and taking time to comment! The Deluge can do so much. I’m not even scratching the surface, more like gently tickling it so far :-)

The groove on this is tasty. The entire thing is smooth. The vocal octave jump really hammers it home.

These lyrics would go really hard with ska.
Sweet performance here.

Love the feel and the vocals.  Very cool song.

Thank you! I lived in New Mexico for a long time and heard lots and lots of gorgeous salsa, merengue, Cumbias, sons, etc. so I knew I just needed to look up the standard patterns for 6/8 and slot them in and then nudge them a little bit for some humanity. It was really fun to do.

Thank you so much! Like so many people, I’m not crazy about my own voice but I try my best. :-)
