summer looms

By levelcapybara on May 19, 2024 11:29 pm

I've got kind of an adversarial relationship with summer these days: too much sun, too few clouds, virtually no rain, hardly anything green left at ground-level, and nerve-wracking levels of heat and wind. It just turns everything so dry and hollow. (Me included. I feel like a nervous wreck waiting for the rain to come back.)

But hey, here we are at Week 20. That's worth celebrating. big_smile
Hope everyone's doing alright, both in and out of WB!

lovely

Feeling a little crispy over here, too.
I could've listened to this for an hour.
I just might.

this is pure music therapy to listen to. on my second and third listen had me noodling along with those lovely chords.  Always could use some rain that's for sure.

Wonderful chords. Divine.

Loom Alert!

Ah, slow rising lush chords are one of the simply pleasures in life. I could listen to this on loop for hours and just search for inner peace.

I want to listen to this during a rainstorm. On repeat. Love the mood.

Here, we have springtime and a lot of rain. You must live on the other side of the globe or another planet. However, I like the soothing chords you play.

The chords are so beautifully haunting. I’m also blown away by how interesting everything is. Not a ton of elements, not a wall of sound, no fast changes. Every note is moving on its own just enough.

Reminds me of waves. I love it

This is fantastic! These chord voicings are beautiful, definitely listening on repeat along with others. Somehow I think I'd know this is you just by hearing the two chords from :40-:52. When are you hosting a harmony seminar/workshop for us? lol Wish I could send you some rain, I've felt the same about the colors changing and things drying out. Hope you're taking care.

Great sense of anticipation in this piece. Lovely voicings, with a mild build of tension that's never really resolved, but there's also never enough tension to move away from "chill"... very nicely done.

Brings to mind a surreal landscape covered in mist or an ancient forest with remains of manmade stone structures covered in moss and roots.

Beautiful chords, excellent choice of sound. I'm on a ship, in the middle of the ocean.

This was absolutely lovely. I can feel the yearning for a more chill weather with this heart Nicely done!

Very soothing! It's beautiful!

Great voicings and great pacing. It's one of those cases where less is more.

lush chords, check. Soothing vibes check!

The sun is slowly rising from the sea, the world is at peace.

You sure know how to noodle on the keyboard. big_smile I’d live to get your skills on a future ambient track sometime if you’re up fir it!

Yeah, I love tracks like that. There’s one in particular from Breath of Fire IV that I loop endlessly when it comes on. I’m learning that tracks like that are surprisingly tricky to make interesting, but I’m glad to hear this one resonates!

Awww, thanks a million. heart Coincidentally, I want there to be a rainstorm. Maybe if we put our heads together…

Thank you! I was a bit rushed for time (and honestly a little depressed and low-energy) when I made this, so that might explain the sparseness. The summer climate definitely helped with the direction and mood too. Glad to hear you liked it. big_smile

Thanks, and likewise, hope you’re taking care too. Nice to hear I’ve been doing something recognizable with chord progressions! Still learning, but I’m to share what I’ve learned so far anytime. wink

Thanks! This time of year is kind of like the calm before the storm for me, so I wanted the track to capture the feeling of everything I love about spring suddenly disappearing and the uncertain threat of the dry season. Yiur feedback tells me that I hopefully landed somewhat close to the target tone.

Interesting! I was actually picturing a dry, empty grassy field (I happened to be sitting in a place just like that when I made this), but both settings have a quiet sense of mystery to them and I’m really glad to hear this evoked that. heart Thank you!

Thanks! Hehe, maybe I should try scoring those Charmin Ultra commercials. They’d almost certainly turn me down but you never know! tongue

That it does. It's usually not that bad here, so maybe it's time for a change of climate.
This song feels nice and toasty though.

Now I'm intrigued about where you live, actually. The description matches my workplace in summer: the interior side of the south of Spain. +40 º C ( +100 º F ) on the day, not a drop of rain and little to no green vegetation under certain altitude. Everything is yellow, everywhere.

Those chords could loop for an eternity under the dry air of the summer smile
