Spring - Digital Flowers

By Kedbreak136 on February 20, 2022 7:46 am

For the WeeklySeasons theme, as proposed by JudgementAct, I made this cover of Spring, from the Four Seasons, by Vivaldi. No, seriously, this is how it actually started, and the chord progression is actually based on it. There are some melodic sections based on that, especially towards the end. It may be more accurate to say that the Vivaldi's spring was the seed for this track, and it germinated into something quite different, in a weird synthwave cyberpunk soil.

Now what about the seagulls - not specifically spring like, are they? This is a weird one. I was playing with Straylight and ended with the bit that is at the intro, outro and middle break. This is how much I liked it. And for some reason this part was calling for seagulls, so I went out to find seagulls and add them there. And I liked that section so much I considered just making a 10 minutes track of only Straylight and seagulls in a loop. You know, like when you jam in a band, and stumble upon a riff that feels soooooo right that you can play it endlessly for hours (of course you might kill the audience with that). It was that kind of thing. I may want to revisit it.

The rest is really bagabagababagabaga double kick hard metal drums, heavy repeating synth, random samples and crashes. And of course some arps.

I was reading your description as I started the song and was chilling out to the seagull sounds when I got majorly surprised when the main part kicked in as that happened right before I got to the part where you talk about it.  Awesome energy though.  I definitely wouldn't have guess that this was inspired by Vivaldi.  It's fun to see where things start out and where they can end up.

Unexpected. The 2:00 part is super interesting with the panned kicks / piledriver... It's cool to see all those different "styles" or elements come together in a cohesive song, well done!

I came here right after hearing ipaghost's tune, without the context, and was like "Oh how interesting, another song with digital in the title" haha. Now it makes sense. I haven't heard of straylight before but if that section where everything drops out and it's the seagulls and that saucy, reverbed atmospheric string sound then I really dig that. It kind of reminds me of the type of sounds being used in songs like "Arriving Somewhere but Not Here". The metal drums have a nice mechanical vibe to them, really blending them into the electronic aesthetic. I don't hear the vivaldi chords specifically but I do think its fun how we can pull influences from certain places and create something completely unique as a result without the audience being aware of the transference. So I think that's a pretty good thing wink

Seems like synthwave cyberpunk soil is especially fertile with the right seeds in place. This songs feels like a whole journey. Great work.

Loving the gulls and the soft string things. Awesome drums too, the second time they come I thought I was prepared but they came even stronger. But somehow I wish you made the chill 10 minute seagull track instead smile it's inspiring tho, maybe I can do that big_smile Thanks for this banger!

Haha the part where the drums come in is so hype. Absolutely love the transition. Also nice to come across a fellow seagull appreciator in the wild. Not sure there's any music that wouldn't be better with more seagulls, argue with the wall. Excellent track mate.

You are a signature sound. Was listening "randomly" this week songs, and did know it was one of your track before reading the artist-title. Cool intense track! Bien joué.

I swear this does actually come from Vivaldi haha. An early version did not have that quiet space but it makes it more interesting and i agree that the drums at the intro are a bit like someone doing a scare with cymbals as you were just minding your business enjoying the view over the sea. smile

Ah that sound is the Predator sound! A sample inspired by the weird chittering sound of the Predator in the movies.

Straylight is a very interesting samples manipulation tool from Native instruments. It allows building cinematic soundscapes. I enjoy it a lot. that's what makes the atmospheric string like sound of the intro, along with the seagulls. Yes, maybe the vivaldi part is more a catalyst than anything - it helped the track happen but once you look at the final product, there is nothing indicating the catalyst ever had anything to do with it. Thank you for listening!

Who would think that this seeminly sterile silicon soild would bear fruits? Digital fruits, mind you. Thank you! smile

Ah yes the second time I doubled the drums even more, adding the Predator sound and other sound effects. The chill part still calls to me. I think there will be something similar to that in the future.

Seagulls are underrated. When was the last time people discussed seagulls on our weekly beats discord? Right? That needs to change. Thank you for listening and the comment!

Ah the "this guy packed 10 different tracks of drums on top of each others" and the "persistent electronic bass beat" give me away. Random samples woulddo that as well. smile Merci pour ton commentaire!

More seagulls please. Great drums, love the blend of the hard drums and the synth interplay.

Listening to this makes me feel like I'm concentrating hard on something, but I'm not quite sure what I'm concentrating on. Somehow I've made it 30+ years without ever seeing predator, so to me that sample was more of a machine gun type of sound. Cool sonic palette you put together here, nicely done!

Metal drums is something I've (coincidentally) also been thinking about, and this delivers on the double kick rolls. Cool track heart

I agree! I want 10 minutes seagull and calm water ambient smile So cool drums on this, a good song Kedbreak!

The drums really pack a punch woah.  So cool!  With the synth bass and arps it really has a cool synth wave feel to it.  Love the breakdown midway through that leads back into the main theme.  Those seagulls almost look like the notes flying by smile  Well done!

A brilliant recording. Ultrapowerful energy on 2:10. Love that part. Fantastic job, Antonio.

Getting heavy goth vibes on this one!  Except the seagulls.  Goths and seagulls don't mix.

I love ideas that can plant a seed which becomes their own thing.

This had me visualizing a tiny tranquil island in the South Pacific that suddenly becomes the battle ground for two 50ft tall  dueling mech robots!  Epic!

Love that intro, totally understand what you mean about finding that perfect sound you could listen to on repeat, great energy and balance with the calm sections to catch your breath

Oozing with good sounds, this feels so nice

okay this seriously sounds like there is a bunch of people on the beach, enjoying a Vivaldi string quartet, but then THE TERMINATOR teleports on the beach and starts MURDERING everyone with a GATLING GUN

Kedbreak: "It's based on Spring!"
Me: "OH YES OF COURSE, THAT'S OBVIOUS!"

lol

all jokes aside, the seagulls + Straylight really are beautiful!  it worked as a great palate cleanser from the super cyberpunk!

fun piece - very surprising twist!

Man, when the drums come in it's a hammer blow!! Really surprising. I doubt any of those seagulls survived the hurricane but I heard them emerge in the eye of the storm.  Love all the phrenetic energy and hard rocking riffs.  Not hearing the Vivaldi though smile

Oh nice seagulls and pads, I'm walking in down by the river in spring, looking forward ... oh my gosh this is intense now! Waterfalls at the river now .. here we go! I smiled when this pumped up. That's a great intense groove, love the arps and leads there. Great juxtapose with the seagulls! Cool!

Ah yes it could indeed sound like a machine gun. The Predator 1 and 2 are pretty entertaining and have a vintage quality. No need to come anywhere near the rest in the serie though.  Thank you for checking out the track! smile

Yes drums are the way to go when you are already pedal to the metal and need to go to 11. smile

Thank you! Yes agreed, I am planning to play more with pharlight, straylight, and other packs from NI that are good for cinematic stuff. I enjoy these atmospheric tracks, even though it may not sound like it much in my usual tracks!

Would Antonio recognize that it was indeed based on his Spring? (probably not)

This seems to happen more often that not. Adding an element into a track that helps kick it but then the tracks goes down another path with a lot of enthusiasm, so much that the initial seed disappears. But in the end, it all worked out.

Thank you! It feels a bit like two tracks that collided into each other. Like you are going to watch a black and white calm movie and when you go back from the toilet you get the room wrong and end up watching pacific rim.

I am pretty proud of myself for having a section longer than 20s without heavy drums, synth arps and insane screaming animal samples! Oops i guess the seagulls are animals.

Seagulls screams are surprisingly cinematic! But they have to be careful what track they step into!

holy shit. What a journey of a song

hell yes!!!

Fantastic concept and wonderful execution. big_smile (Can't believe I missed this one in Week 7!)
