Just lovely! This is so clearly full of heart! It really reminds me of Elliott Smith's Angeles. Wonderful job.

Oh yes, truly Elliott basement vibes. So beautiful, I could cry. A little Tim Fiese-Greene and Tim Smith as well in here.
Thank you, jwh

What a beautiful song. heart

Gorgeous

Really hits the comfy cozy sweet spot in the best possible way.  Warm, soothing, and nostalgic.

Quite lovely. I love the daughter/sunflower line.

This acoustic sounds really great.

Wonderful vibes heart

Gentle, romantic, and the minimalism is an asset here, not a limitation. Wonderful!

not much to add, other than it all fits so well, really enjoyed!

Love this song! Absolutely gorgeous vocals!

Oof, just beautiful and tender. Keep it up smile

really appreciate that, Q-Rosh. i'll have to check out Tim Smith. i love Talk Talk but haven't spent much time with Tim F-G's solo stuff. there was an album i was really enjoying yesterday where he was playing a lot of melodica. really nice!

aww, cheers! and yeah - i've had this Fender acoustic for over 25 years now - we've seen some shit together! nothing fancy, but i really like how it records. used the cheap ribbon mic for this one.  smile

Wow, incredible you can keep this up every week, another beautiful piece of music with great and thoughtful lyrics.

Love the grounded vocal and guitars. Ballsy low end as well, this bass is deep.

Very pleasant listen.

It reminds me of some Damien Rice record. Been a while I listened to that but want to re-visit!

Beautiful and touching! So strong when 2nd voice comes. Masterfully played! Nice lyrics too, lots of good callbacks and turnarounds idk what to call them. Blessed to witness this being made.

love the recording, vocals sound great, the acoustic and electric guitar combo and that tape hiss. did you record on tape or add some hiss in a daw?

Beautiful.

I agree with all the call outs to the Elliot Smith vibes, wonderfully delicate vocals, and I totally agree with horatiuromantic, the vocal harmonies in the second half are SOOOO well done.  It would have been easy to loose the tenderness of the track bringing in a second voice, but you layered them so nicely.  Also, the lyrical structure works incredibly well.  Using a tail rhymed AABAAB structure (which I think has a fancy poetry name that I don't remember) fits perfectly with the harmonic rhythm of the guitar part. Never looses a sense of forward motion, but always feels like it needs just one more repetition.  Lovely work.

love the pacing of everything in this.  The fullness of the bass, the strums on the guitar to the vocals especially as the harmony trickles in.  The outro melody from the guitar made me need a second listen.  Beautiful and serene setting.  Such a calming track.  Your music each week has been inspiring and motivating!

i really appreciate that. to be fair, this was one i had started a while back but never finished. i don't know if anyone considers that cheating, but it has been helpful for me having this weekly deadline to wrap up some ideas that i haven't gotten to.

thanks so much! no actual tape was harmed in the making of this recording.
i think there were a few different things that combined to build up that hiss: the vocals & acoustic were recorded with ribbon mics. they are figure 8 pattern so they pick up sound from both sides and i didn't do anything really to block the house noise, and probably had the preamp gain up higher than needed. there was some amp hum from the electric guitar track. i also had a tape simulator on the master bus & when i was looking just now i realized i had left the "analog" setting on on the compressor i used for the bass track and that was adding some noise as well.
i started trying to clean it up when i was mixing but realized i liked how it was sounding with the noise and thought it was appropriate for the song so i left it. it's my hiss blanket  smile
