Haunting and menacing and beautiful. The Handsome Family holed up in the wreck of a house near a swamp with the restless spirits of Ghost rattling at the window panes.

Absolutely loved this. Also FROGS!

heart

There is a hit of Sergio Leoni Spagetti western vibes there!

Fun listen.

100% approval from this frog!

Beautiful soundscape, almost left like it was straddling the line between ambient and melody at times. Love how the lyrics brought form to it all at the end.

Love this, the space and mood you created is spectacular and lyrically hits hard.  Great ambience, great song.

As an aside, there is a series of books called the Southern Reach Trilogy (which the film Annihilation is based off) and as the slow frog kicked in I was immediately taken there.

Oh man this is a vibe. Super evocative deep swamp folk.
Guitar sounds amazing. Great great stuff.

Aw dang. I guess I owe you a coke.

1.) the greedy bastards are coming for us
2.) there are more of us
3.) love > greed
4.) frogs slowed down ~25% sound very alien

so timely I feel this so deeply, more people need to awake from the polarity spell. Its time for a prion break.

As to your notes

1) They most certainly are
2) There are and we need to realize it and figure out how to collectively work together instead of letting them set us against each other
3) There's a reason the Beatles said "All You Need Is Love."  Because it's better and it's also anti-greed in that it's telling you you don't need more.
4) Those slowed down frogs sound freakin' awesome!  How are you doing that?  I recall a little while back you mentioning Reaper has some sort of tape speed function like on a 4-track.  Is that it?  And if so where do you find that function???  (I use Reaper, too, and was not aware of it).

Anyway, dig the whole song, dig the message, dig the vibe, love the slowed down frogs!

Frogs are awesome.

Anything worth listening to is worth listening to more slowly.

This piece is wonderful!

hooray! definitely felt like i was straddling that line. i wasn't sure this was even going to have vocals or lyrics, but i'm glad it came together how it did. thank you

1st - thanks so much! i believe we can do it  heart

re: slowing frogs... yup, i did that in Reaper. there is a knob on the bottom right marked Playback Rate. you can also right click on the space just next to that where it says "Playback Rate 1.0" and make adjustments there.

for example, if i want to record a vocal harmony but i want it to have a little different sound from my main vocal (or if it's a little too high for me to sing) i will right click on the Playback Rate and choose "Decrease by ~6% (One Semitone)." this slows the entire project down a semitone. so then i record my harmony and when i'm done, i click on the Playback Rate and return it back to 1.0.
*when you right click there is an option to "Preserve Pitch" when you change the rate. if you turn that on, you can slow or speed down the project but it doesn't affect the pitch. i personally like to leave that unchecked so the pitch changes with the speed (this is what reminds me of the Speed knobs on a 4 track).

for the frogs i just turned the Rate knob all the way to the left to -.25%

i'm sure there are some Kenny Gioia videos explaining it much better if you search "Reaper Mania Playback Rate."  smile
this image shows where the section is:

cheers!

Thanks for the info!  I'll definitely have to mess around with that.  I used to love playing with the tape speed on my 4 track.

More frogs is never enough. Thank you

This was an awesome trip. Yeah!!!!

Ooof love the mood of this from beginning to end.  The frogs have finally made their appearance! Such a cool idea and such a haunting sound together with the chord progression and vocals.  Love those harmonies too.  Also feeling those spaghetti-western vibes on the chord strums.  Also, also!! excellent harms on 'summer forever (for Chris)'
Keep going!

Gorgeous

this is awesome. love the build up, really well done, the track opens up slowly but surely, perfect!

I really love the mix on this... the high bell like sounds fit so well, which is tricky given all the movement in the frog samples.  This is awesome.  Such a strong atmosphere... I feel enveloped by it.  Very well done.

The frogs here do, indeed, sound quite alien. And you're right, it'll never be enough. Those greedy, greedy bastards. Awesome job!

This tune feels like a slow-burning desert sunset, where every note stretches across the horizon in a warm, golden glow. We got quite a few frogs out in the desert during certain times of the year in Tucson.

you'll have to let me know if you do, i can see you having fun with it!
i forgot to mention, there's also one of Reaper's free built-in plugins called ReaPitch that you can use on individual items. I've used it to raise or lower something by an octave at times and it works really well.

oh, i love that. please tell the desert frogs i said hi!

whoa, the frogs are eeeerieee! An ode to capitalism. Great work as always.

The atmosphere of the song is well done and it draws you in.

amazing ambience. loved the layering and textures. transported me to many a night spent around cacophonous insects, frogs or who knows. it's hard not to be a greedy bastard when it comes to at least one thing.

This is so enjoyable, great start with the frog manipulation, when that guitar comes in just puts a huge smile on my face, had to rewind and play that back again.  Hope to hear some more like this in the coming weeks, reminded me of Natural Snow Buildings "Terror's Horns" album

The ambient sounds, frogs, etc. are just awesome. Love this "soft but heavy" feeling. Are we the frogs? I hope we're the frogs...

thank you! and not so much an ode as a lament... i really hope we can rise above.
but yeah, those frogs really weirded me out!

i appreciate that. we haven't been hearing many frogs lately, but the crickets and cicadas have been pretty incredible. i find it very comforting late at night or early in the morning while the neighborhood is quiet.

that makes me so happy! i was really happy with how the guitar sound came together on this one.
and wow - i wasn't familiar with NSB. listening now and can def hear why this song brought that up for you! really cool recording

i also hope we are the frogs. they seem to have it figured out!
thanks for listening, Cursory

i thought the video was just a still image but then i got the backstory on the FROG APOCALYPSE and now i'm in shambles :'(

this would be really excellent in a film, surveying the devastation.

the frogs actually sound so musical - you are not missing this year
