bird advice

By jwh on February 22, 2026 6:01 pm

another quick ditty, for the birds. based on a true story.

i've had to simplify things this month as i've been wrapping up the mixes on the 2nd forestlike album, and therefore needing to manage my time & ear fatigue. good news though, i'm on the home stretch! plus i've really enjoyed doing these stripped down acoustic tunes the last couple weeks.

sending this one out to the DESLRV crew, and their bird friends. in addition to their rad music, i really appreciate the things they do to contribute to the WB community, including listening to so many songs during the off year & leaving comments. every once in a while during 2025 i'd log into my WB account and there would be a new DESLRV comment on one of my songs which always boosted my spirits.
salut, DESLRV! heart

hope y'all are doing ok. thanks for listening and let's keep going!
XO,
jwh

loving these little lofi demo tracks, 🦅

Catchy and really sweet. I already know which friend to send this too because they will adore it.

Between this and some of your other recent tracks, you could release a really rad children's album, if you felt the urge to.  Not that it isn't good listening for an adult, but there's a wholesome and cozy feeling to these tunes along with fun subject matter that would lend itself well to younger audiences.

heart

So cozy...bird wisdom for the win!

True story - years ago, I once pulled my car over to look out at the ocean while I ate my sandwich, and I open the car door, and I look down, and there's a pheasant - a *pheasant* - of all things, standing right there, looking up, demanding a bite of my sandwich.

I didn't give it a bite of my sandwich.

Maybe I should've listened. 😓

i love this! favorited.

heart

DESLRV crew are legit homies. And this was a super fun listen!!! So lovely.

Reminds me of Dylan and Al’s Conor oberst in the best ways. Just delighted.

lovely guitar and vocals heart "red-winged blackbird" heart

My work colleagues and I usually take a daily afternoon walk. Last spring, we started noticing the hatching birds, and we brought along cameras to try and capture a glimpse of them growing up. It brought a new sense of wonder to our days, and I am thankful for the birds, they truly are our friends.

This made me think of those walks. A wonderful cosy song.

i love birds, they're so cute! really cosy song, love the lofi sound

so pure and cute! this is wonderful! def make a bunch and put them out! and well played, catchy even tho it's just a few nicely strummed chords.

Bird is the word! You're really getting that old time feel with these songs. I feel like I could be listening to O Brother Where Art Thou or something. Sounds amazing.

Yes, huge respect and thanks to DESLRV for the comment carpet bombs in the off-years. I logged in one day and my dopamine receptors went through the roof seeing like 20 new comments. This was a super cozy song and a real foot stomper heart

You know, I've always thought of you as innocent and wholesome but it turns out you're actually a monster

it's so beautiful and pure, feels like a very classic song someone would have sung when i was young. lovely! hope we are all bird enjoyers here heart

This song is different in style but the theme brings me back to when I first heard the song "I like birds" by eels. There's a beautiful innocent simplicity that is in fact just a cover for a deeper truth. Listen to the birds, indeed. They know what's up.

It definitely pheasant one of my proudest moments. 😓 Looks like it’s time to change my name to devilcapybara.

Great track by the way jwh!

That was tastefully executed - with the vintage sound and the raw vibe.

I knew I should’ve capyrighted it.

Man, me and puns today. 😛

delightful

BRIBS. BIRVS. BIRBS.

The bluejays around here of late make a sound like a squeaky clothesline, but only in the mornings, and it's completely bizarre. The rest of the day they just fly around the neighborhood screaming MURDERER. And sometimes REFILL THE GD FEEDER YOU LAZY HUMANS.

sounds like you already have your next album queued up from this year, love the stripped back tunes.

Less is more, I don’t think this needs any more than it has. Really sweet and uplifting.

A folk song distilled. Excellent work here, it sounds like it could be recorded yesterday or 100 years ago and only unearthed coincidentally due to it going public domain in 2026. Lyrics way more subtle than mine haha, to the point where they're also timeless.

95 seconds well spent, would listen again!

I really dig these quick folky tunes. It makes me want to just simplify things and jam out on the acoustic.
The lo fi vibes on it are just perfect.

Yesss, listen to our friends the birds! Good advice and a swell jolly song to sing along too. When you can write a good song like you, guitar and voice does the trick! Congrats on the album. Nice shoutout to DESLRV, +1000 yes yes.

you always got such catchy lyrics... love the raw sound of the guitar strumming, too, the timbre mixes so beautifully with your sweet voice. nice one! heart

hell yea, birbs
love the very lo-fi vibes here

also thanks for the shout-out, we're doing alright, could use a job I suppose

Birds aren’t real why would you take advice from them.

Good luck on the mix project!

Beautiful and inspiring! This really sounds like it could have been written anytime in the last 120 years. Perfect!

Such a cozy song! Lovely to hear just guitar and song once in a while.

Sweet music. This would fit perfectly on a record lathe.

you know years ago i had started working on a kid's album (my kiddos even recorded some stuff with me when they were tiny and those recordings were gonna be part of it). it might be time to revisit this plan.
cheers!
