Don't Be Shy, Reggie Scyther

By RPLKTR on February 22, 2026 6:08 pm

I welcome all critical feedback. Can relicense if you're interested, just ask.

After djippy said on Discord that a C arpeggio drowned in delay for 60 seconds would be a poor weekly beat, I made this track that is basically that but for 3 minutes. Since it's Week 8, I'm using the Roland T-8 and the track is in bona fide 4/4.

128 BPM 4/4, C-phrygian. Roland T-8 drums and acid. Osmose gated pads. All guitar sounds Yamaha Revstar. All vocals my fault. No AI used in any part of the process. For this year every cover art is a photo I took.

really enjoy the industrial adjacent music heart photo is lovely again this week too? it looks like some beautifully colored wood but I can't be 100% sure what i'm looking at!

goes hard

Dude! This is so hypnotic and sick. You had me with that acid bass at the beginning, but when that guitar came in? Whew...

Loooooove the 303 sound you have going on here. Combined with the guitar it's a really interesting sound, the breakdown in the second half is great!

Love the mix between the 303 and the guitars! Sounds really nice big_smile

i think my only critical feedback is that i want the vocals louder

but everything else is FIRE

whoa, just realized Reggie Scyther turns into regicider!

this gives me a feeling a industrial punk vibe !!! like the french human puppet duo keni carne !!!well done

agree with Orangedrink, vocals are super quiet, everything else is pure fire

I love the retrofuture, industrial vibe. Makes me nostalgic big_smile

I love this! The vocals are killer and add so much to the feel. Really great stuff.

Crazy good track... This is definitively not what I had in mind on the thread. This is Trent Reznor level shit.

Just trying to find things because you ask for it, but maybe you could add a bit more "bite" to the distorted guitars? Maybe mix could be even more "clean" as there are loads of elements so doing some clean-up on some of it so everything sounds even more in their place.

haha this is f.ing awesome. grinning from ear to ear right now.

Hell yeaaaaaah, I love me some dark and edgy feeling industrial music. Vocals are super good, and I think they're roughly about the right volume for the music. The vibe I typically get is that this kind of music is meant to be BLASTED so the vocals end up sounding loud anyways. Also, nice guitar wink

I had no idea fuzz guitar and delayified acid bass could pair this well.  Definitely appreciate the lyrics this week, because while I was listening my brain just decided to auto-categorize the vocals as one more instrumental ingredient in the cool-arrangement soup.  Fantastic-sounding answer to djippy's challenge.

Oh shiiit 🧠

I get a frontline assembly feel from this track - it must be the acid lines and the processed vocals. That was a cool trip!

Got to love a bit of acid bass!! And this is so well done..Really nice surprise when the vocals come in... Really original stuff!!! 🩵

dopeeee! I like the spiteful kinda art made when somebody is like "that won't work" "watch me bitch" hahaha. similar reaction song as the "kibbitzers" in my song hehehe altho I wouldn't call a fellow weeklybeater a kibitzer.

ooooh I SEE what Reggie Scyther is (regicider). thanks for spelling it out LOL

WOAH I love this! Dark but clean. This is the stuff I was listening to in the 90s/00s and it feels good to hear the style is in good hands.

oooh yais love the skinny puppy/sister machine gun vibes i felt \m/ That acid line is hypnotic yikes and love the filter rides on it.  Guitars hit so heavy and still give the lead space.  Sweet space escape on the arp build.  Awesome work!

Love the cut-time beat breakdown around second-half. Everything stays interesting throughout, and i especially enjoy your 'whispercore' vocals that eventually yell out by the end, very tasteful moves! heart

ooh, that C arp worked huh. Love that you tie the week number to gear choice, and sounds great! Love the acid dripping, the vox are cool. Great stereo mix, I swirled up into this world with you. Hypnotic.

Grandmother sits set up so I can sometimes steal 2 mins to key in an arp and just listen to it evolve for a moment of escape. This track definitely filled that same desire.

The T8 acid sounds *great*, and the vocals sound excellent and well-articulated, and reading back this is a ton of sound for just three instruments - fantastic work.

Also, distort the hell out of it and drown it in verb and you will have me addicted for life.

Only notes: some of the more distorted/processed vocal moments sounded really really good and well timed where they were, I think this could be something to return to for future tracks it was doing the work!

yr doing the damn thing over here, Buddy  \m/

Good stuff! Those arps feel alive interesting throughout the whole track cool Killer vocals as well!

Ho Lee Shit. Fantastic. Front 242/Front Line Assembly vibes for days. Tons of texture with great little details - absolutely loved how the doubled guitar ping pongs side to side a little bit in the rhythm. Subtle but so effective.

My only note: I want…no, not want. NEED your vocals louder and more to the front. Your performance is fantastic, and I want it right to the front sharing equal space with all this amazing energy.

The spirit of WaxTrax is alive and well. Another favorite.

Regicide is my favorite kind of crime. This is really just a spectacular composition from start to finish.
Just excellent work.

I accidentally hit submit before typing a comment, so I'll just go with "This track left me speechless" :-)

This is one of my favorite tracks of yours this year - phenomenal. I would agree that the vocals could be a bit more forward in the mix - they're too good to be drowned out!
