The thing nobody tells you about sleep on the 'belt is how much time it takes to adjust. They don't lead with that in the brochures sitting in every waiting room planetside. If you got recruited in Jovian space they were probably a little more up front, but then again you probably already had some experience in micro gravity, so who would they kid?Six weeks of sedatives just to get a night's rest without spilling your dinner, and another eight on an antiemetic cocktail so strong the side effects would constitute torture somewhere more civilised. For the first six months on shift you're basically a zombie. The only saving grace is nobody gives you grief about it. They know. They've been there.
My advice? Don't try a FIFO gig to anything vacuum-sealed. You're better off staying in the black for a few years and taking the Extended Stay bonuses... Saves you the readjustment that eats into your vacation time.
Heavily inspired by the Citizen Sleeper soundtrack on this one. Possibly forgot to finish it last night and just tidied it up for release 30 mins out from deadline ![]()
