The Empire's Might

Oh hi there! So nice to see you again!

Let me start off with an apology. I haven't been able to listen to almost any of your submissions this past week. Actually, I have been able to listen to many of them, but I was not in a position to be able to stop frequently and comment on them. I typically try to carve out one or two hours to do ONLY weekly beats commenting throughout the week, but this time it just didn't happen. I listened to a bunch of y'all's tunes, but it was in the middle of other activities where I couldn't really stop all that frequently to comment. Anyways, all this to say I'm sorry I haven't been as present or active as I usually like to be.

That being said, let me tell you about my submission this week! This one feels considerably undercooked, but I think there's a really cool kernel in here. This feels like a follow-up to "Usurper" since they both have strong "evil empire" vibes. I wasn't able to build in all that much variation, so the song just loops over the same basic 8 (sometimes 16) bar loop, just turning things off and back on. Also, this strongly suffers from too-much-itis. There's just too much stuff going on at the same time and it feels cluttered at times, making it hard to hear all the instruments contributing to a specific section.

I originally tried to do the whole only out of the M8's WAVSYNTH engine instruments, but about two hours before submitting, I tried adding kick and clap samples and fell in love with the whole new feel it have the song. It made everything so much more dancy, so damn fun!!! Hahahahaha... I'm also a bit sad I didn't build in all that much variation into the main percussion either - it's basically the same 4 bar loop all around.

The very militaristic style sounds from the beginning actually made me want to give this song a bunch of different titles. I ended up picking "The Empire's Might", but here are some other strong candidates:
- Power is for those strong enough to take it
- Usurper Pt. II
- No such thing as a rightful heir
- Waltzing to your doom

As an aside, I absolutely disagree with the sentiment that power is for those strong enough to take it!!! That's ABSOLUTELY not what I believe in. However, that feeling of "I think that I deserve this, so I will take it" is very much the feeling I got from how the song opens: some corrupt figure simply decides that they belong on the throne so they just take it.

If I'm being honest, my beliefs line up a bit more with the "no such thing as a rightful heir", but I didn't feel that the song itself had much of a "rebel uprising" feel to it.

As per usual, this was all done on the Dirtywave M8 Tracker.

Thanks again for being such a dope and supportive community, folks!!! Y'all really kick ass!!!

PEACE!!!!

Cool work with only the wavsynth. My favorite is the synth line that comes in around :50. Great work overall, ups/downs, builds well, lots of great layers going on and a touch of evil. smile

Life does tend to get in the way of the WB. I too have fallen behind on commenting, but have been listening to a lot of everyone's beats.
Like the "evil empire" vibes and sometimes it’s those last-minute tweaks that make the magic happen.

The empire feels intergalactic, and ramshackle. A space junker from corrugated metal sheets.

EVIL EMPIRE DANCE PARTY!

Love the driving feel with that beat, but also the whole evil empire march elements. Totally envisioning a short film with these tracks all stitched together into a long form story. Great work!

Oh that beat is huuuuuuuuuge when it comes pumping in. This gets epic with those almost choral vocals-ish sounds. Def has that evil empire sound and really kinda nail that vibe, I can almost see like soldiers marching to this in some sinister dystopian world.

I'm also kinda learning to love this M8 Dirtywave tracker from your tunes.
Nice work!

I really like your arrangements. Yes there is the nostalgic element about the sound palette, but the the layering and choices of notes-syncopation is super epic too.

Love that. I want some pixel art shooter with that music on now.

And yeah! thanks a lot for all the comments, I try to give back but definitively am not giving 1-2 hrs a week as you usually do. This is much appreciated (and we can see that with the commenting back to your tracks, but they are really good so it is a pleasure to say hello, I listen to your thing and it is a fun one!)

Rock on! Almost at the finish line!

Good chiptune track, I like that high lead. The movement since about 1:10 is pretty cool, with a strong sense of an epic boss battle. And a choir! One can never say no to a choir.

cinematic chiptune! in that there was a very vivid visual (whoa settle down w the alliteration, josh) element. love it, jeg!

Such an energetic uplifting cinematic banger from da beginning!  With it's pulsing kicks to those wide synths this has an awesome flow to it.  Nice work!

Dude ... I should get some chiptune lessons from you. This is so awesome! It feels like chip opera or something with that high lead that really sounds like an opera singer. Amazing work.
