ive decided to devote one more week to lsdj while im getting ready to finish some new material and write a song using only one lsdj instrument for all 4 channels.

this has been my hardest week yet.  ive been trying to learn Nanoloop 1.6 while also planning for and presenting at Ohayocon on how to make music on LSDJ, so lots of stuff going on.. well see if anything worth while comes out of it before sunday.

the easy part is over

either way, youre still trying to justify stealing it for some strange reason when there is nothing you really need that isn't in the standard version which can be bought for $15

im not trying to justify or advocate stealing anything.  that comment was only intended to say it was possible. im trying to accurately represent a product which you seem intent on bashing for whatever reason.  It works great for me and i just thought someone (im guessing not you) might like to know that.

To be honest, I would say probably no. I don't think the site was ever intended as a promotional tool. More a creative one.

i dont think that networking with other musicians has any negative impact on the creativity of the site whatsoever.  in fact, i would say it has a synergistic effect if anything.  i agree that the primary purpose of this site has been and should continue to be to encourage and support the creation of independent music at the individual level.  my point is that it doesnt have to be limited by that frame of mind.  im not suggesting anything about promotion (i dont want promotion to be a big part of this site either), just that the methods of interpersonal interaction on this website could be improved and that i think it is in everyones best interest to be able to talk to and learn from the other musicians on this site in an efficient and relevant way.  when your songs arent being listened to by anyone and no one talks to you, this is not accomplished and it ends up turning into a popularity contest anyway, regardless of initial intent.  there are easy solutions to alleviate this that do not detract from the primary function of this website, and i think it would be wise to pursue them.

samples (and LOTS of them), synths/virtual instruments, vst plugins, effects plugins, online support (which is quite extensive), and access to their store where you can buy pretty much anything you could ever want to add to the program.

The newest version of Magix is version 17 i believe and it sells for 99$.  you can download it from their website.  if you pay for it, it actually comes with a whole bunch of VST plugins and sample packs built in as well as synthesizers etc.  its compatible with standard VST plugins too so you can import your favorites from other programs.  the mastering suite is pretty great and it can handle 5.1 and gives a lot of control over the final output sound. it can even handle video if you dont need to do any serious editing.  over all a very nice program for the cost.

Its $15 plus shipping on newegg for magix music maker 17
..oops, tiger direct, not newegg

youre right, but i think that version is the stripped down version.  the 99$ version (Premium?) comes with a whole lot of other stuff like the plugins, mastering suite, online support and tons of downloadable content which you dont get with the bare bones one.

i think this whole thing could be solved by a complicated system of preferences and customization with lots of data on your song plays and stuff, but i feel like that would dilute this thing that we have just started (49 more weeks??!!?). it could just as easily be solved by making the playlist random and the display of music on the music page randomly oriented as well.  if there are artists you want to listen to you can always just search for them anyway.

I really enjoyed the writing, recording, and performing of this weeks song, but i feel like the final product is somehow lacking.. cant really put my finger on it.  I wasn't really rushed and i liked all the things i did to make it.  i feel like im missing something still..

im not really sure how i did.  it wasnt anything spectacular but id never tried a song like that and feel like i learned a bit in the process.  i also got the track in pretty early so ill count it in the black.  im definitely looking forward to trying different things though.

so im just throwing this out there, but what if it were the case that all first week musicians music got put into "week 1" and for each week that you put in an additional song you would advance a week for your "week 2" song and so on.  once you reach 52 weeks you get inducted into the site hall of fame or something.  if that were the case, the website could keep going on after 2012 with it still be fully open to all new participants to complete the 52 week challenge.  this way if the site picks up a lot of popularity later on in the year (which im thinking it just might if things keep being this awesome..) it will allow the people who started at the beginning to maintain their original timeline while still allowing new people to enter and get the full experience.  that being said, i dont know how hard that would be to do, or if other people doing this would be interested in this sort of thing, but i figured itd be worth sharing.
