Not sure if I'll do 52 tracks this year, but I'm in, at least for the start of the year.

Hello beautiful community!

Just coming here today to listen to some of the stuff I did last week and some cool tracks you guys have done...

Just wanted to know how it is going for you guys (and ladies).

Weird half of year for me, very minimal use of my instruments, almost no jams (even if we now are allowed to).

I am pretty busy still with the 3 kids at home, but even if I wasn't sure I would not be part of weekly 2022 at the end of 2020, I am pretty sure I'll be in again. smile

Looks like I need that kind of motivation to get shit done, so be it!

smile

Have an excellent end of years all, see you in 2022.

I actually like DJ ippy... lol.

1- If you put some time into anything, it finally get somewhere... So I should get my shit together and put time on thing I love since this year experiment proves that it works.
2- Power of deadlines. You can put some time on stuff but if you don't timebox goals, it might not work...
3- Knowing your tools helps a lot... "Cheating" is OK, and sometimes can help to be creative.
4- I'd love to be a solid performer but recording myself more than usual this year I can say that I try but am not there yet (so I cheat... wink )
5- I like to keep stuff (kinda) simple.
6- It is a pretty awesome community here, very positive comments. It helps a lot to get motivated.
7- Motivation is overrated.
8- Just do it! (Nike was damn right when he selected this as their logo)
9- I have 7 fuckin guitars at home and recorded only 3 of them this year, so I need to work on the studio so my gear is accessible, easy to go to.
10- I miss playing with my friends... I played way less than previous years with Niko, Hans and Mitch, hope we can get back to 4 piece rock n roll band soon.

I am really grateful that I did find this platform and composing this year was a blessing.

Yeah....nah, none of these intentions happened.

There's still time right?

Hows everyone going @Thread?

Yes, plenty of time to do loads of stuff before 2020 ends.

It is going pretty awesome for me to be honest. This is weird, but doing this gives me a relation to time that I usually never had (half year milestone, week to week progress into the year, etc...). Many decent tracks did get out of the project and since I almost never play with my friends this year, "having to" compose a little something every week helps me putting some time on something I really enjoy.

I have the goal to complete all weeks, I really think it will be done (I cannot be sure yet). Many people here have been super supportive, everybody are friendly. Very happy I am part of Weekly 2020.

However one of the goal was to release an album with the band in 2020 and I really don't think it will happen... sad meh, next year.

Hello all, buying stuff for music is fun, but since many of us doesn't do a penny with that hobby, sometimes free is good... What is the free stuff that you find very good, that you work on your workflow. I will not post only things that I do use since it could be useful for somebody else.

DAW:
Cakewalk by bandlab is pretty good, much more stuff in than audacity by default. https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk
audacity

FX:
https://www.tokyodawn.net/tokyo-dawn-labs/ I love the compressor, works very well.

Instruments:
https://asb2m10.github.io/dexed/ FM synth that works pretty good. you can hear it on "Sports with my love" track... smile

Is there a sampler that is not too clunky (I don't like the cockos reaper one) that is easy to use and can load most used samples library for free?

I had a bunch of other software free because I do own a focusrite soundcard as well but didn't include it here.

Have a good one all.

(If you have good free samples sites to share free of copyrights, it could be nice.)

25%!!!

Congrats to all of us that did it. And for the ones that release here and there, it is all good too!

But the 25% mark is pretty good to me. And it was achieved without too much pain for me. For the intentions, it is pretty awesome, did some decent songs, and I play more than I did in 2019.

Being confined at the house, it is tough for the band at the moment, but I can still record some stuff alone at home.

Very happy to still be able to add a song every week.

Have an excellent week all. I listened to very talented people here, very happy that Gab Manette did convinced me to be part of this.

I do not always want to go "work" on stuff, but when I get into it it is almost always fun. Plus I am lucky to rehearse with a band to and do some collaborations for the weekly beats, and this year is a decent one so far with the band as well. We are able to record some tracks almost every week so far (by track I am speaking of only overdubs and stuff, we never track a complete song in our 2-3 hrs sessions... but recordings go forward so it is good for motivation) and we have a small show planned on April 9th. So we will try to play loud rock in front of some people.

I am really happy of my 2 firsts releases, not that much of my 3rd one and ok happy with week 4. It is difficult for me to lock enough time to "polish" my tracks, so it is raw. Good news is that I am more into Rock, so dirty, raw rock works fine smile . I'll try to release a couple more complex composition during the year, but the goal is to release stuff, not to release amazing stuff. If I do, I'll be blessed.

I feel that I am slowing down (harder to put as much time to compose/arrange stuff), but I do have some unreleased materials that I did created during the first month so I am confident I can release 3-4 more weeks without starting to compose really shitty stuff...

Super happy I started the projet, confident I'll be able to release 52 "something". I actually have fun going in my garage on the evening and do 1-2-3 hours of trying to compose/record stuff.

I don't have any planned schedule. I try to do enough at home with the kids and girlfriend (housework and stuff). I do work full time day job. I do try to lock Thursday or Friday evening for the rock band rehearsal (or recording stuff related with the band).

If I do have a little energy left at the end of the day when the kids are sleeping, I will "force" myself to go work on some tunes/ideas. Instead of browsing netflix or reading boring stuff on my Facebook, I do compose. So far I am able to find some time for the weekly beats. This week I did put less time than the 3 previous ones, but it was my gf birthday and I just started a new position at job too...

That was a long answer for question 1.

If it is futile? I don't think so. If we want to release stuff we need to work on stuff, so locking time to work is good I suppose. Very nice work by the way, I am impressed by the job you put over the song with the videos. I am not there yet...

I am lucky, still have ideas and I am pretty motivated to release stuff. I don't really care if it will be good or not, just uploaded week 3 and really I don't like what I am releasing this week that much (another style that I am used to do, still it was fun to do). I do put myself some pressure to release stuff every week, but not so much pressure about quality of the tracks. I keep it "simple". I release super short songs too. I hope I will not have too much "blank page syndrome", but so far so good. I have many ideas, did start 8 projects since I knew I will do weekly 2020 (maybe 2 weeks before first release). Good luck! keep it up...

Hello all,

First weekly beats for me. I'll do my best to release lots of content. I was curious about what are your setups? All computer based? mostly acoustic? analog gear? etc, etc... Time to brag about our setup, to speak a little about our workflows. I am "trying" to record music since a while, so I do own some stuff.

I will personally try to do mostly acoustic content but will probably take the opportunity to release some electronic based tunes as well.

My setup:

Cockos Reaper with mostly free plugins.
Soundcards: at rehearsal studio with the band Audient id14 and an old motu 8pre fw, at home a focusrite scarlet 18i8 first gen.
Mics: Shure pg drum microphone kit, audix i5, a chinese large diaphragm condenser mic, a samson Q7.
A small novation midi controller, a roland td6 electronic drum (damn I find it hard to do a good performance, even more when I do not move some air.)
An old drum, mixed shell westbury, pearl, sabian cymbals...
Too many guitars (strat, tele, lespaul, an acoustic one) (I don't really play, will try to use them this year smile)
Amps: Fender pro jr (small 15w 10" amp) and a Randall RD1H Diavlo 1W

I'll see how I'll record my things, but probably a 4 mic setup for my acoustic drums, sometime 6/7 depending if I have time to do more setup. I'll try to record some stuff with a guitarist friend as well, probably live multi-track on the local.

I might be able to find time to record acoustic drums at home on weekends, maybe not, if I do it will be probably mono drums, 2 or 3 mics.

I'll steal an electric bass to the bassist of my band as well so I can do some electric bass tracks...

I hope it will be fun and that I will release some ok tunes.

Have a good year all!

JPD.

It is gonna be tough... Full time working day job, dad of 2 kids (3 and 8 years old) drumming in a band (and we want to release an album in 2020, some of the tracks are already recorded but will have to put some work into that as well). But a friend of mine did 2018 challenge and he did release some great content. This gave me motivation to try. I want to compose as well even if I am a drummer, so I'll try to release something every weeks.
