midnight eclectric

woooooweeee - this is a weird one. encouraged by comments enjoying the idea of playing around with other WBers tracks, i gave myself a challenge this week by taking FOUR samples from those who submitted around the time i did last week (and that allowed for derivative works). fated time-submission winners were:
used both of these to create a driving bassline of sorts, which really picks the energy up from the start
used for a grungy non-4-on-the-floor kick pattern and kick fx distortion to kick things off and provide interest (the samples kicked so hard from the start! didn't have to do much to them!)
and
for some more percussive interest and fading echo dub-ish sounds
i played around with each track in ableton, looking for interesting snips/clips to try to mess with. i'm generally finding that without stems, it's easiest to chop from the front or end, where there's less layered instruments to have to struggle with when adding effects or cuts - a cleaner signal is provided if you will. there were more parts from each track i wanted to include (like eNumPV2.0's cool chip/game chirps), but i just couldn't fit them in, so went with less is more. my goal/challenge was to use 4 samples vs make a recognizable mashup of 4 songs too (so i reminded myself as well).
then i tried to put them together in a rhythmic way, and modified the pitches to what i think sorta works (no idea if they're actually tuned to the same key or not, so apologies if your ears are better than mine and ... well ... if i hurt your ears -- part of the ecletic soup for this week).
once i got my 8 bars or so of loopy loopy, i started playing around with arrangement and transitions. i'm realizing i really like long build ups to get into the song. threw in a house style kick + hat which really changed the vibe, and then felt it needed some vocal play, so added some in. the super rhythmic buzz and guitar samples from jemmon and orangedrink really made it feel faster than it is (120bpm), and then the vocal kind of slows it down some (along with the sample of laguna's dub)?
so we get this ecletic electric track of sorts -- fast and slow -- bright/light and dark -- clubby and wistful? harkening back to my maya jane coles and maceo plex influences?
thanks for listening/reading

the clock strikes
midnight eclectric.
in that arbitrary man-made moment
between days
your
late night
becomes
early morning.
the lights get
a little darker
your mind gets
a little more sloshed together
as the vibe
and chemicals
get
a little more sloshed together.
inhibitions and social fears lower --
you hear things differently:
you finally hear your body
and the bodies around you
pulsing to the
midnight
eclectric
when both hands on the clock point up
and you are in between
the past and future
and you are in the
eclectric mix
of now.
