How It's Made: Time Travel Warp Drive

By Dustsucker on January 4, 2026 10:27 pm

Hey there, this is my first ever entry for Weekly Beats!
I am equal parts excited and horrified to attempt to create 52 tracks at a steady pace.

One of my reasons for joining is to figure out my style. I feel my tracks tend to be a bit all over the place, so making a whole bunch of them will hopefully start to reveal a common thread. Or maybe I should just embrace the chaos.. Who knows?

For this first one I had a bit of trouble getting started. The first track of a project always feels like it is a special case. Something that sets the bar and tone for what is to come. There must've been over a dozen failed attempts, all going in wildly different directions. In the end this one made it over that first hill and it was done fairly quick after that.

Made on Dirtywave M8, mastered in Logic.

Take a peek: download the M8 bundle

That lead melody goes hard!

I very much enjoyed that blend of chipmusic with big beats, thank you.

such a cool progression! love the sounds and emotions in this one!

love how dynamic it feels. nice visual as well heart

ooo this is lovely, so smooth...

Ahhhh this is so good. As someone else said what a great lead tone. Transitions are super good, very energetic, cool as hell.

Great track! I especially liked the ramp up in the intro, it was fun and unpredictable smile

Solid... big fan of the half time break.

This is great. The playful soaring lead is perfect against that solid, solid beat.

Your comments about style feel very familiar!

Always bet on Dustsucker for a barnburner. Chip Rave with metallic and tube-y bit to lend edge to the sweet melody. What struck me most is the 16th-note gated ostinato. I haven't checked the bundle yet, but I think you're doing something tricky with either tempo or groove to make it push and pull, which would be totally appropriate for a time travel song

I relate to that finding a style thing very much... but also letting that change based on where we're at, what we're feeling, experiencing etc.

Very cool track though. Congrats on your first WB upload!

The buildup to :23 ooof!  Gotta love that pulsing bass and the heroic leads sparkling atop.  Awesome transition from the half time into the lead that sounds like I just got upgraded with flying abilities.  Well done!

Didn't really go that deep on the theme to be honest, I just thought it would be fun to see a future episode of "How It's Made" where they casually show a factory making time travel machines ^^
The gated bass is slightly randomised in length to make it feel a bit more analog and the ostinato came from trying if REP works on hypersynth chords (it does!)

Oh look, another music-making buddy of mine!!! Hahahahaha... Great to see so many folks from the M8 jams join here as well!!!

I super feel you with this, man. I tried to use WB 2024 to kind of get a handle on the same thing for me, and I think I've kind of got it figured out. But at the same time, the boundlessness of not having much of a predetermined style is also quite nice, because it allows you to explore the weirdest shit, hahahaha... But yeah, WB 2024 definitely helped me find what my voice really was, which also made it easier to expressly avoid it when I wanted.

Anyways, super cool to see you're here! I really dug the tune, too! The main melodic voice is AWESOME! Dirty, playful and just fun. Really nice job!

I love the synthwave aspects of this!

Frick dude, that lead is bonkers

wtf this goes so hard

How did I miss this one yesterday?!  Such a banger!  Great sound design and classic PWM lead pulling it all together.  Love the bass journey vs. gated chords in this one.  Perfecto smile

Holy shit! This is insane! So good.
That slowly increasing tempo in the intro is sick!
I feel you regarding figuring out your style.
However, from what I've heard, you do have something that ties your tracks together.
Looking forward to hearing more!

Definitely checking out the bundle for this!

Really love the placement and composition of those arp moments in the lead!

This is the theme song to a 80's tv series where there is a talking car, NO! a futuristic helicopter, NO WAIT! a group of vigilantes. NO even better A SUPER SONIC TANK THAT CAN TIME TRAVEL! YEAH!!

Oh yes this is right up my alley. So good

we really DID accelerate into warp speed! Great powerful beat and big lead! I like when the main melody goes crazy with 32nd notes or whatev only to go back to main melody.

Love the tempo speed up at the beginning! Great sounding lead - all the little flourishes and wonderful.

Suuuuper lush and huge. The melody really tells a story. The drums hit super hard, too.

I feel my tracks tend to be a bit all over the place, so making a whole bunch of them will hopefully start to reveal a common thread.

That was exactly why I joined in 2024 and what I tried doing as well. Looking forward to your exploration in these coming months!

Whoa, pretty amazing. If this is what you stick with, I wouldn't complain in the slightest.

Holy cow, thank you all for the comments, was not expecting this. Couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome to Weekly Beats! I won't go through every comment because I don't know what to say other than "thank you", but I really appreciate you all taking the time to listen and leaving some kind words.

OH MY GOD YES. A tv show that has an intro so long it's 10% of the runtime haha heart

I'll be sure to amaze you with how bad I am at sticking to this haha. Thanks for listening!

Wow, super-fat!
I love this kind of epic-chiptune-big-beat kind of stuff.
Do you know Zircon? He's one of my fav artists in that direction. Just came to my mind when I heard your track.
Anyway, nice work, keep it up!

Late to the commenting party but I like this track, I feel like I'm in a retrowave spaceship

Haven't heard of Zircon but I'll be sure to check them out, thank you for the recommendation!
Thanks for listening! heart

This is such a sick vibe! Great job. Such good feeling bass sounds.

Euphoric and massive! Definitely chip-adjacent but really loving the hard hitting production throughout.

The sound is just damn too massive! Thanks for sharing the bundle, will definitely be taking a peek at the magic.

wow thanks for the m8 bundle (hexawe vibes) and cool video scope vizzz

Huuuuuuuge kick and snare intro is epic and this lead omfg. The sound, runs, perfect reverb and own, Jesus. The mix is super full and lush. Little pinks bouncing off the main line and now these super fat chords coming in. Did you work on this for 400 years? Jesus we're still not done, more leads and super nice huge chords and space. Man I hope to be able to make things sound so complete one day!

this is the theme song to my favorite time travel tv show!

the lead is absolutely wonderful

welcome to WB!!!
