Le ciel n'est pas toujours bleu

1 month done!!!!

11 to go. Not bad.

Trying to find some "box" - direction to go with this year Weekly beats challenge. Not sure yet about what I'll do next, but pretty happy about the work I did so far.

Did go the "mellotron" route again this week, going a bit for the same aesthetic as week 1, with nice "old school (emulation)" strings and flute, plus did load another fun 70's inspired synth...

Looped some chords at a fairly low tempo (project is set at 130 bpm, but it is 65bpm really) then improvised some drums over it on the garage...

Did crank A LOT of compression on the drums, especially snare top and it does bring up those ringy overtones (not Mettalica St-Anger yet, but I'll get there some day!!!)

Most of the composition was built using "LANDR Composer" midi chord generator. Did move around the 2 midi parts, curated fun sounds, then finished with the guitar solo.

Uploading this "early" this Saturday evening. Will go to one of my kids Judo competition tomorrow...

Today was a very beautiful day, but super cold! -25 Celcius... Did go drink a coffee with some irish inspired creme maple syrup booze on it outside. Was very nice.

Cheers!!!

Fitness related stuff now... Still disciplined enough to pull out about 7h of cardio (bike, about 3h outside and 4h inside on the trainer.) Body weight sill going down at about 89kg (196 lbs). Did a big "cheat day" with lots of good fat and salty food (too much of it) tonight as the big boy had to cut some weight for his competition and was able to make weight, so big food tonight. (Was super happy and opened some wine as well. smile )

Will start soon (maybe?) to do a bit more of full body strengthning stuff, did try a session this week and damn my abs are not strong... lol. Plan A is to burn fat, but I am getting there, so having a decent cardio plus being strong enough to do a couple sit ups ain't too bad of a follow up plan... smile

It is NOT fun, but energy is still not too bad and results are good so let's GO!!!

Quite an epic tune really and I'm a sucker for mellotron.  I like how there's real drum kit playing on the track too.  The heavy guitar section ruled.  Well done.

Sounds like you're crushing the fitness.  I just got back from an early morning bike ride to beat the heat.  Opposite of where you are as it's hitting 45 degrees celsius today!

Drums as always are incredible. The lead that comes in around the 1:30 mark gave me goosebumps.
MMMM distorted guitar solo. Spectacular work across the board.
Favourited.

Absolutely loved that arpeggiated synth line that comes in! Great jam.

This is like a prog tour de force! Love the mellotron, gives King Crimson vibes that I’m totally here for….then we dive head first into some Pink Floyd…and then faces melt off with that HUGE guitar break. All tied together with that great live drum sound. Love it! Favorited!

This is the stuff right here. I enjoyed this from a listening perspective and with the audio engineering hat on -- tasteful mix.

Très très nice! En mode prog saga

epic and powerful sound with the bass and drums! \m/ awesome use of the synth leads too. oh yais those super stereo guitars sound great exploding thru the mix.  well done!

Digging the structure.

Great  drums and I really dug the melotron-y string thing. Real kit?

Thanks!
Yeah, I am fairly consistent with the "fitness" journey. Crossing fingers that I'll crush it and makes it a real habit. And since I can just "arm tracks - record" from home, why not... Love the randomness of moving air and it is my room-kit, it gives something really unique to my tracks.

Thanks a lot! I feel I should find a real ending for this track tho... (or leave it a bit more and just fade out)

Thanks a lot. (I have not much merit for those, it was outputted like that already but did chose a fun sound patch to go with it smile )

I am pretty happy about the "crazy distorted-reverbery-too loud" guitar solo! Nothing complicated, but vibe it adds is fun imo. Thanks a lot for the kind words. Really liked your 80's inspired track this week.

Thanks a lot! Did a couple fun stuff on the mix, Panning, some choruses on the mellotrons, reverb on one of the synths, compression on kick-snare and drum bus and that is pretty much it!

next - 11 mins songs... lol Du prog pas si prog, oui des synths qui rappellent un peu certaine époques, band mais c'est une structure pas mal pop quand même. smile

Thanks! Yeah, I quite like that deep bass that is the main preset of the midi generator tool I use... smile

Yeah, fake mellotrons, real drum kit! Live from my Garage...

Thank you so much all to have listen to my track, and the very kind comments.

Take care!

Synth work is great on this and melds with the organic instruments really well.  Everything sounds huge, rocking, and badass.

Love the tone of the string machine here! Cool distorted guitar too. And, wait-
*checks calendar*
...Wow, you're right, one month down! January, where'd you go?!

Love the direction you took here. It fits to the rediscovered early Genesis records, that I listen to at the moment. Well done!!

Hey Q-Rosh, super happy you are doing some listening still and that you take the time to comment some track!

I hope you'll be able to take some time to record some cool guitar loops thru fun fx soon, if not not a problem at all. I can always go back to your old stock!

I hope everything is good for you.

yo those drums sound SO GOOD. love how everything is working together here, djippy.
you crushing it   \m/

Love these lazy, meandering drums.  Great feel, just taking their time to get there.  Downloading this one now.

Sometimes it's purple. I like the purple sky. This has purple sky energy.

Wow, it has been a month already.  I wouldn't search too hard for that box-the mellotron+live drum aesthetic is still kicking ass.  By the time the whole ensemble reaches full blast, the effect is glorious!  Definitely a favorite from this week.

(BTW If you ever release a track like this licensed for derivative works, I'd love to chop some of those garage drums in a future WB; they have such a great balance of presence, punch, and live air.)

I just edited the submission, no worries you have my approval. If you want multi tracks from this I can send you stems as well. (either my sub stereo drum mix as it is now or the multi tracks)

Thanks! you are crushing it too!

Looove the heavy vintage compression with the mellotron. Real nice combo.

ca va. came for the drums, got won over by the keyboard runs and high fived myself when i heard the cowbell. this was almost hypnotic for me, nice work.

Sounding good. The make me think of Sinoia Caves with the strings synths and arrangement in parts. 7 Hours on the bike is pretty good! I need to get back on mine more regularly. I was doing a 20 mile ride once a month for a while. It got cold and I got lazy tongue

Lush track, vast wintery scapes! Great to hear a more live approach to WB.

Those Mellotrons are just as icy and longing as they should be, and the leads are just so vibey.

Super happy it did hit some good stuff with your brain! Didn't put as much effort on this week track, but spoiler alert, still "cool" drums, same synths models and just a touch of cowbell again! hope you'll like it.

Yeah, happy to let you guys hear soundwaves from my garage!

Take care all, see you all in 47 mins or so!

Really enjoyed this track. It has that dusty epic vibe right out of the gate, that is totally my jam. Great mix for all the sounds you have going on here. What a total treat!

EPIC

yo this is great and btw I finally put together that you made the track with Theodore from before, and this is similar! it's such a nice one! cool version with synths!

would be curious to hear it at a little bit higher tempo. This is cool and laid back and heavy feel, but I feel like you could really go berserk if it just went a little bit faster, give it some energy.... maybe that's just my obsession with playing fast tho! anyway very cool tracks, thanks for sharing them!

btw hello from Copenhagen frozen wonderland hehhe. we just had record breaking snow... at least the temperatures are not so low.

Music creation is so good...  I'm feeling overwhelmed right now.  smile  I don't really know why I'm writing this here. Love this song.

Are you located in QC?

Thanks a lot! Same kind of sounds but even a bit more aggressive vibe to come for tomorrow's track!

I like the snow...

I like the "slow, steady and powerful" tempos. It suits me well, plus I do not "practice" my instruments much. I do Play a bit with a friend a couple times a month and do those weekly beats so sometimes the hands - feets just won't follow up at higher tempos. sad

I am not beast of a player like you are! lol. I'd love to, but I don't want to put the efforts in so I am screwed... (It is fine, I have fun doing and even listening what I play)

Super happy you did come back to my previous tracks, that it was interesting enough to you! Thanks a lot!

Longueuil style... smile

Did live in Mtl for a bit, couldn't afford house on the island so my girlfriend and I did purchase not too far away...

Super happy that you did like it!

haha you are making the most of that mellotron (listening in reverse order from most recent) but its so good honestly I'd use it every track too thats what defines a "style" right
