The Tree's Point of View

By Daisy on July 21, 2024 6:03 pm

This is how a tree must feel as the men with chainsaws circle around it and make plans to cut it down.  I couldn't bring myself to give you something resembling a chain saw.   At the end is the final breath of the tree.  I have always been sensitive to trees-- as a child when men came to cut down a tree in our neighborhood I was really upset for days.
We have so many outstanding old trees, that are constantly being cut down.  There is an amazing Horse Chestnut that must be 100 years old on my dog walking route and I think the owner is going to take it down. He has wanted to, but his old mother told him that he couldn't do anything with that tree until she was gone.  She died in January. I really hope he doesn't. This is the most magnificent of trees.

I do not have a picture of this tree yet, the owner is a bit sensitive of any one taking pictures of his property.  This picture is very much like the tree I am talking about.  It has the best shade canopy, and the blooms in the spring are covered with bees for a time.  It is really provides for the insect life.

really cool piece, but now i'm sad. i'm also rooting for the Horse Chestnutt!
have you read "The Hidden Life of Trees?" i recently read it (ok, i LISTENED to the audiobook smile ) for a bookclub i'm in. really great and interesting book.
