Creep

By dadboy on February 14, 2026 1:40 pm

This has been a busy week, and a little harder to just sit and think. I struggled a lot with the mix of this one (I'm still not super satisfied if I'm honest, but it's good enough), and I have mixed feelings about there being a lack of a cohesive whole, but for how busy it's been, I can live with it.

There's less of a clear sort of emotional center to this song, but I had a few things swirling around in my head as I worked on it. The main thing is: I struggle a lot with intrusive thoughts related to some unresolved traumas, and when I'm tired/stressed/overstimulated, those walls of compartmentalization weaken and break down, and those old hurts start to surface and even though it's painful, there's this familiar sort of settling sense that happens. Thankfully EMDR has been helping stabilize the extremes of this, and things feel like they're starting to fade a bit. Ultimately, it's a chaotic mix of things, and I feel like this song somewhat conveys that whole process/feeling.

Man what a switchup. Great song. Music can be so transformative emotionally, helping us express things we can't consciously come to bear. Thank you for sharing.

This is an absolute keeper. Maybe it's not 100% what you envisioned but it's definitely cohesive.

Definitely! I struggle to connect emotionally to and with words sometimes, but music just captures things so perfectly for me. Thanks for listening, and glad you liked it!

Thanks! It’s growing on me, too smile

Glad you liked it, and I appreciate the kind note

This is so great. Love the sound choices and plucked runs. Thanks for sharing some of the inspiration for the track heart. The energy shift with the tempo change really convey the feeling of messy/chaos to finding some peace. I smiled when I heard the plucked runs at the end because it was like revisiting an old memory

Thanks! Yeah I'm really glad you picked up on those connections - I wanted it to be different but not unfamiliar

Yeah this has the juice and the sauce, even the gravy.
The strums with the acid bass : yes
The transition to the synthwave section : *head explodes*

Ah, this is so cool, man!
Loved that tempo change.
And the huge reverbs, swells, etc. Feels like I'm being being pulled under a massive wave. But also like being at peace under the water.

Great job!

dude! this track gets magic for me at ~2:20. lead melts my heart.

This is great on so many levels! Those arped plucks in the intro sets the mood, and the leads in the synthwave section are just perfect cool

Another excellent track. Absolutely love all the sounds in this and the mix honestly sounds excellent to me. The switch up is absolutely gorgeous. Can you tell us a bit about how you go these sounds? Is this mostly the m8 or also a lot of TEO-5? If you are planning to release your WB stuff on Bandcamp I will definitely buy it.

oh wow the switchup is so cool. love that part from 3:05 onwards, so pretty

What a lovely B section.

instantly feel like i'm watching a sunset with that synth pad. love the distortion on these sounds it's so crisp, that acidy synth especially rules heart B section is such a nice switchup

The texture is very satisfying, like a persian carpet. Also throwing in my appreciation for the lead at the end. Lovely.

sounds so determined and present. keep going, dadboy heart

heart Thanks! I don't think I could do a synth song without a synthwave section wink

Thank you! Yeah I feel like my style often is "happy but still a little bit sad" or "sad but still a little bit happy," and I felt like this fit. Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks! That was when I felt like this came together for me specifically when I added the pluck over the detuned saw. I'm glad you enjoyed and appreciate the note smile

The pads are hypersynth, but I wanted a longer release without voice stealing, so I spread it across two channels. Those strummed chords took advantage of plucked technically being 4 voice polyphonic (or paraphonic, I guess), and I used a table to quickly arpeggiate the chord. I forget exactly how I did the bass for the first half, but I think it was macrosynth triple saw, with lots of amp and filter stuff for that acid sound. Early on the mix was really muddy, and I wanted the bass to feel present but not overpowering, so I brought it down, doubled it into a second instrument, and hard panned both in an attempt to give it more width. Not sure how much that actually did but it felt like it worked to me haha. Only other thing of note that I can think of was the lead, which was a detuned macrosynth triple saw (iirc) with a pluck on top of it. I'd be happy to shoot you a bundle if you want although it's a mess! Lol

I did put a few of my month 1 tracks on Bandcamp, and I'm sure I'll put more up eventually. I think I'll try to do so roughly monthly. Thanks for your continued encouragement and support! I'm eager to return it when you release some of your stuff!

Thank you! I feel like either the A section or B section on their own would have been just ok, but I was really pleased with how they flowed together. Thanks for listening and for the kind note! heart

Rad sound design, the filters on like all of the percussive elements just sound so nice.

This has so many moments of surprising joy and gorgeous textures.  A journey worth taking again and again.

Thank you! I always worry my music is repetitive and boring, so this is really encouraging to hear heart

Nice pumping beat. Fav is the big guitar strums.

Thanks! That's a trick I picked up during weeklybeats with the macrosynth pluck on the m8. It started as a bit of a cheat to get a little more polyphony, but I really like how it sounds, too. Thanks for listening heart

It's just so awesome!! I really liked it on youtube, and now I've bumped into it here and loving it all over again...

It's definitely in my top 3 for this week!

How you performed the transition into the tempo shift was really good. The synthpop that follows is great. It adds light coming out of the gloomy beginning. Also, super cool how you have a music video for your song. Is that a screen capture of your daw or a sequencer? Great song!

Thanks! That's the mixer screen on the m8 overlayed on an audio reactive VS2 patch I made. Glad you enjoyed! heart

The verbs contrast so nicely over the crunchy drums

Like the arrangement too. There’s a hard line between part A and part B that was really refreshing

Nice one! That switchup at the halfway is amazing, love the way it totally envelops everything.
This song goes through a lot of different phases, very nice work on making themn feel like equal parts a cohesive journey.

Another banger!  Love how you make that synth bounce around and really nice transition at 1:40, that was unexpected and really mellows down the track, beautiful pads throughout.

Ooh this was pretty, you really know your way around m8 !

Oof the drums in this are siiiiick.  Love the whole texture of it and how the synth fits in.  Oooh like you hit a switch and put on ultra-drive-mode with that pattern change.  The fx transitions are awesome touches too.  The lead so epic but the pulsing bass is soo good.  Well done!

The synths are so washy and atmospheric and the arpeggio that comes in kind of grounds it. Then the switch up and that high pitched hopeful lead synth comes in and its just chefs kiss. So much fun listening to this.

Big fan of the way this transitions into a settled groove at the 1.50ish mark, those white noise washes are really lovely, big up!

When the drums landed, the rhythm was totally unexpected, but so good. Awesome

Thanks! Yeah, I was definitely going for that chaotic/frenetic feeling (like it's almost just barely holding together) until it all kind of dissolves into something familiar, melancholy and sad. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for listening!

this track - WOW!

wishing you rest

what to say that hasn't already been said -- it's super rad! and glad music can be there to help us process and express emotions and experiences in ways we might not even fully understand (i've heard wonders about EMDR too and have done a couple sessions).

came here since you've been kindly listening and commenting on my tracks. stayed for the wild awesome ride. i hope you find those vocalists you're looking for because i could totally see a CHVRCHES track out of this with a light female voice on top.

Thank you! Really appreciate it. I should definitely try to add some vocals. I could probably even do some myself, I'm just really insecure about my voice, and not very experienced with producing vocals yet, either. Maybe I'll give it a shot one of these weeks. Thanks for listening, and your kind words!
